I have an 8-9 year old 32" Proton that does not get sound when using the DVI source with an HDMI cable, however sound is fine when using the other sources (i.e., composit, VGA, component, etc.) with both DVD and/or satellite receiver. Do you have any suggestions, or is there a way to connect additional speakers?

If that were correct, wouldn't the Proton TV have audio ports for the DVI? There are AV1,2 & 3 with the yellow, white & red mono connectors, there are two Red, Green & Blue for component cables and red/white audio connectors, and an S-Video connection, but no audio connectors for the DVI. How do you get sound with the DVI?

Thanks, I tried that, but there are two component and neither worked with the DVI. However, I am using a component cable that works fine. I guess that I'll just have to give up on the DVI.

    Thanks, for the suggestions.

Hi.

Yep, DVI does not carry sound, that is correct. If the TV has sound input, then sound is connected using the Red and White AV cables (AKA RCA cables). The red and white audio cables must be connected to an output in the external receiver or DVD unit.
Some TVs of this kind do not have separate sound input, and the red white cables on TV. In that case the best solution is connecting the audio out from DVD, computer or receiver to external speakers or to a stereo system rather than using TV own audio.

Regards.

Hi:
when using DVi input you will still need two audio cables for the DVI output to get audio, DVI does not carry audio as with Hdmi cables if you are using a DVI to HDMI adapter then you will still have to use the DVI Audio Output jacks for audio.

    Hi:

Try using the Audio out for the Componet output the red and white.

HDMI I have no sound when hooking up my HDMI(cable output) to DVI.

DVI does not pass audio to the HDMI cable. You must use an audio cable (red & white RCA connector) for the TV

Hi Genaro,

Sounds like an issue with the HDMI HDCP content protection. I do not think it will be possible to connect using a DVI to HDMI cable.

62' tv has sound no picture. tv just 2 years old.

Sounds like a video cable issue, i would change your video source cable and if that does not do the trick, try switching inputs all together, if your using color stream 5 strand go to HDMI, DVI or svideo.

Samsung T220HD - can't access HDMI input sources

If it like my monitor, same hookups as yours, then when you want to use the hdmi port you need to disconnect the dvi cable. The monitor cannot read from hdmi & dvi when both are connected, Try this & see if your PS3 works. Good luck.

How to eliminate error screen:"your tv does not allow display of this program through the dvi input source. please chose another tv input source."

"cable box to tv is hdmi cable"

Everything I've read on the web says cable box to tv connection must also use component (rgb) cables. The error is coming from the cable box (STB). All the Scientific Atlanta (SA) cable boxes seem have this Digital Rights Management (DRM) bug and the only way to be totally rid of the error is to replace the digital connection from box to the TV with an analog connection.

Dude, the hdmi is just for the video signal, you'll have to use a separate audio cable to get sound from the integrated speakers.

This TV won't support 1080!

Low or poor signal from the cable company. Try another signal source such as a DVD play.

Connection to a computer

This TV has an HDMI interface, not DVI. If your source is DVI, you can get an DVI to HDMI adapter. The HDMI carries both video and audio data, so you will need to connect your audio separately.

Problems connecting computer to tv via dvi

Not sure if you have fixed your problem or not. When I hook up my pc to the ILO 32 HD...I ran DVI input for picture...you can also use HDMI if you like..I had a problem with sound and had to use a splitter and run sound into AV2 IN to get sound for some reason...your no picture...if you are getting a black screen, you need to set the resolution on your pc. VGA to 640x480 and SVGA should be 800x600 and XGA should set at 1024x768..most likely the last one is the one you need..and this is not a normal pc res....set your refresh rate to 60HZ. All this is done in the control panel/display/settings tab. Also remember that you need to change your source on the TV to the proper connection to see it...ie component, HDMI etc.
