Hi,
Uninstall the HP Mediasmart webcam software from programs and features in control panel. Resatrt the notebook and install it from the following link:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp42001-42500/sp42222.exe
After installing the above you will be able to use the webcam.
1. Right click on the webcam entry in the device manager and choose uninstall.
2. While uninstalling select the option to delete the driver software for the device.
3. Restart the notebook and try to use the webcam.
Even if the issue is same then download youcam software from the following link and install it on the notebook. You will get the you cam icon on the desktop and startmenu from where you can access the webcam.
I understand that your Notebook webcam is not working.
To isolate the issue please test webcam in quick play. If it do not work and shows black screen. Please perform the following steps.
Click start and in the start search box type Device Manager and press enter. Then click on + sign next to imaging devices and right click on HP Webcam and select disable. If it prompts you to restart the Notebook . Then restart the Notebook and check whether Webcam is working. If it wont prompt to restart the notebook then right click on the HP webcam again and enable it.
Then check whether the webcam is working.
When prompted to restart the Notebook after disabling the webcam . Even after restarting if webcam doesn't work. Then install the Webcam drivers from the following weblink.
