What you're referring to is called a PSK or Pre-Shared Key. It is not viewable - if it was, it wouldn't be secure. If you've forgotten what it is, you can login to the router and change the PSK in the router admin pages and then you will have to make a corresponding change on each wireless device (computers, printers, etc) to allow them to reconnect.

How do i set up my dlink to work with my new laptop.currently it is conected to my desktop computer. trying to manually add my wireless conection. Need to know my Network Name(1-32case sensitive...

Your laptop should be able to automatically find the network name and security type. (You would have set up all of this, by the way.)
You should then type in your security key/password (you should have set this up when setting up router for first time, also) and then you should be connected to the internet.
Your laptop might not have wireless capabilities, so you might have to buy a wireless network adapter.

Router password

>If you're trying to put password for the Router, then type "http://192.168.0.1" into the address bar, then hit "Enter."
>Use "Admin" as the username and leave the password blank when the login screen appears.
>Please click on Administrator settings and change the User Name and Password.

If you're trying to put a password/secure the Wireless network, then follow the steps:

>In the Router setup page, click on Wireless Settings.
>Under Wireless Security Mode, select Security Mode: WEP/WPA/WPA2.
>Enter the Security Key manually or enter the Phrase to generate the Security key automatically (only in WPA/WPA2) and save the settings.
>Please note the Security Key to connect to the Wireless Networ.
>The Wireless is secured now.

Good Luck!!!!

My wireless network crashed, how do i get it back.i have a dlink DIR.615. thanks.

If the Wired Connection from the router is still working then login to the routers Interface and recreate the Wireless Network with a SSID name and Wireless Security password(WPA Personal) Recommended as its more sure.

Nb200 does not connect to wireless router ( dlink / virgin ) but will connect to neighbours unsecured wirless connection

you need to change your wirless settings.
I gues you have a high level security assigned to your router like WPA-PSK with a passphrase or WEP with 128 bit encryption.

Solution is :

Login to your router page and change the wireless security to WEP 64 bit and assign 10 digit number as a password in key 1. change your wireless name and click apply. and then try to connect to your own chnaged network.

How do I reset my security with the dlink 2310

To change your router wireless security
  • Support site here http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=470
  • User guide here http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=WBR-2310&tab=3
Connect your PC to the router with a cable to one of the LAN connections - Now you need to Log into the setup of the router - to do that open a web browser, use Internet explorer (some routers setup pages do not work correctly with other browsers) In the browser address bar - 192.168.0.1 Enter the user name (admin) and your password. Leave the password blank by default. Now you can goto the wireless section or secruity section and set the type of encyption to WEP, WPA, WPA-PSK etc and then make up your own password. See Page 25 of the User Manual
On the PC Double click on the wireless connection in the system tray (bottom right hand side of screen) and then connect manually to your wireless signal - you will be asked for the password you set in the router.
Now you are connected.
You may need to remove any old wireless profiles you have on the PC/Laptops Wireless Profiles - Vista/Windows 7: http://mgmcc.forumotion.net/networking-tutorials-f17/removing-an-existing-wireless-profile-t109.htm http://www.tp-link.com/support/showfaq.asp?id=214 - delete the wireless profiles Start> control Panel> classic view> network and sharing center> manage wireless networks Delete the profiles you will then have to enter the wireless security key for any networks you connect to --------------- Wireless Profiles - XP http://mgmcc.forumotion.net/networking-tutorials-f17/removing-an-existing-wireless-profile-t109.htm http://www.tp-link.com/support/showfaq.asp?id=186 - delete the preferred networks start> control panel> network connections> right click on the wireless connection listed wireless networks tab in the preferred network list click on each one and - remove button
you will then have to enter the wireless security key for any networks you connect to

I have a dlink dl524 and trying to set security on it

Hi, I will lend a hand if I can.

Important Note! Use a wired connection to your router when setting up security.

There are four basic steps to setting up wireless security, which are the same for most routers:

1) Login to your router
2) Change the router login password/username
3) Change the network name, or SSID
4) Enable WPA encryption

Here are the details, taken from the Dlink site:

1) Login to your router.
Type the router address in the address bar of a web browser. For this router, the default is
192.168.0.1

You should see a popup box. If you have not changed the password, enter username: admin and leave the password blank.

This should bring up the configuration screen/user interface.

2) Change the router password.
If you haven’t set a password, this is a good place to start. Go to Admin > Tools. Set new admin and username passwords and click 'Apply'.

3) Change the SSID (router name):
Go to Home > Wireless, and change the SSID from ‘default’ to anything you like –as long as you can remember it. It is case sensitive, and you can usually use up to 32 letters – but don’t use something that could identify you, or your location. Click ‘Apply’ when finished.

4) Enable encryption
Still in Home > Wireless, select WPA-PSK.

Under ‘Passphrase’ you should enter a long password, or passphrase, between 8 and 63 letters/numbers long. This can be any series of letters/ numbers, or you can use a phrase with numbers ( eg - 456HapPY2009toyou8899). It is case sensitive.

The passphrase is also called the network key, and sometimes WPA shared key, PSK, pre-shared key, WPA-PSK, authentication key.

Note down the passphrase/network key carefully. You will need this to connect wirelessly. Click ‘Apply’ when finished.

That's it, you have done enough to secure your network, and can close the screen. (There are other options you can configure at a later stage if you wish.)

When you next connect wirelessly, you'll see the router with its new name in your 'available wireless networks'. When you attempt to connect, you are asked for the network key you set in Step 4. If all goes well, you can then save this and will connect automatically in future.

Hope this helps, but if it is not clear or doesn't work, please come back to Fixya. Good luck...

D-Link DP 311U wireless setup

Had same problem. Got it to work!!
I have DLink DP-311U and 2Wire Gateway router/modem 2701HG-B.

Solution: Connect DP-311U to router via network cable.
Then you can see it either with PS Admin or with browser http://192.168.0.10 should be default IP address of DLink Print Server. Set Connection Mode=Infrastructure, ESS-ID=2WIRExxx (xxx is your number of the router) - this is your network name, and wireless channel=1.
And the most important - change your IP Address to 192.168.1.xxx - xxx=choose a number over 64 if it's not taken already.

On your Gateway page: http://gateway.2wire.net/xslt?PAGE=J46&THISPAGE=A02_POST&NEXTPAGE=J46
Set Network Name=2WIRExxx, WIreless Channel=1, enable SSID Broadcast, Disable wireless network Security.

Once you get those numbers in, check connectivity with above programs with cable connected, or typing new print server IP address in browser. Then disable cable and check again. You should be able to see the box. Then connect print server to printer and make sure your printer settings on computer point to new IP address.
