Disc error my ps3 wont play a game after a half an hour of play. called sony and they said they were sending me a case to send my system in for REPAIR. my playstation is 5 months old and i cant play anything. sony said my case was shipped,that was 7 days ago and nothing. HOW LONG AM I GONNA B WITHOUT MY PS3?

the blu ray player uses a magnified lens ( likely used in ps3 games too) which is not used when playing ps2 or regular dvds...why they work, any spec or suface wear to the lens will cause the system not to read the discs) , a cleaning disc wont work as the ps3 wont recognize what it is and not play it... only solution i found was to send in for service , which costs @ 150 bucks! i have had similar problems as well as multiple friends of mine. to solve this, you must call the playstation company and send your system in to be serviced. if you have purchased it within the last year and have proof, sony will fix it for free. if not, they will charge you $150 for their services. this is the only way to fix the problem

Same problem here, your only option is to send it in to sony.  I'm about to click submit with my card information to pay the fee.  Mine reads everything but blu ray games and movies.  If yours is over a year old it's probably out of warranty like mine unless you bought the extended warranty.  For you crlnmcgrth, i would check and see if you can find out when you bought yours exactly.  If you are still under warranty sony will fix it for free or send you another system identical to yours for free.  Call 1-800-345-sony.  They open at 9 am est or 6 pst. Hope this helps.  

You will have to call sony and get what is called a coffin and send it in for repairs. If it is under warranty you will just pay for shipping. More than likely your blue ray driver needs replaced.

unfortunately your bluray laser has probably failed or is failing. the diode burns out quickly on these older units. call sony they charge 150 or send it to me for 100..24hr turnaround

Hey, i bought a ps3 almost 2 years ago now, its been more reliable for me than my old ps2. i would try and phone them again if you aint recieved the case soon,
it does sometimes take a while for them to repair it and send it back ie if its the same console, they might just swap it for another ie once u get it sent away :-).
sounds like a problem with the laser, im sure you will see the case soon, and touch wood have no problems with the replacement ps3.

Return under warranty, ps3 uses a high powered blu ray laser that can melt the lens after extensive use, sony is working on a fix and will repair this for you for free unless you have opened the case.

HARDDRIVE CORRUPTED

i spoke to sony on saturday and they said a patch is getting releasewd tomorrow tues 8th of jan to sort all disc reading errors. hope this helps

Is your console still under warranty? If so, then send it in to Sony for repair.
