Epson Stylus CX5400 Scanner

Error message showing. The light on the scanner is not working. Is this likely to be the actual lamp / florescent tube and if so is it something I can replace myself.
Thanks
George.

If the lamp is not working their are two main possibilities. The first is that the lamp has failed and needs to be replaced. Buying a replacement MAY be dearer than buying a new machine - you will have to price the parts locally.

The second option is that the controller board for the scanner has gone. Again this could be an expensive part, but contact a local repair center or parts supplier to price the bits.

If you are successfull in getting the parts (you may buy a faulty machine off ebay with good scanner and bad printer to strip parts from) then this service manual will help you get to the parts you need:

I was wondering if it is possible to buy a replacment scanner lamp for my Epson cx5400 so that i can replace the part myself? or does it need to be sent back to Epson?

You should be able to buy the lamp directly from Epson Spare Parts. Contact them in your country and ask for spare parts dept. In some countries they will only supply these via authorised dealers or repair centres. When you call have the exact model no and serial numbers available as this determines which lamp you actually need.

How do i install my new ink cartridges in my printer epsom

Be sure you have a new ink cartridge before you begin. Once you start the ink cartridge replacement procedure, you must complete all the steps in one session.
  1. Make sure the EPSON Stylus CX5400 is turned on and not printing. The LCD screen tells you which ink cartridge is low or empty.
  2. If your EPSON Stylus CX5400 is low on ink, press the left Menu button until you see Change Cartridge, then press the Color Copy button.

If your EPSON Stylus CX5400 is out of ink, press the Color Copy button.

The ink cartridges move to the replacement position.

  4. Lift up the scanner.

  6. Pinch the tabs on the front and back of the cartridge, lift it out of the printer, and dispose of it carefully.

  8. Before you remove the new cartridge from its package, shake it four or five times.

  10. Unwrap the new ink cartridge and lower it into its holder, then press down on the top of the cartridge until it clicks in place.
  11. Caution: Don't touch the green circuit board on the back of the cartridge; you may inhibit normal operation and printing.

If you need to replace other ink cartridges, repeat steps 4 through 6 before continuing with step 7.
  12. Carefully lower the scanner and press it down until it clicks into place. The EPSON Stylus CX5400 begins charging the ink delivery system.
  13. The On light flashes and the EPSON Stylus CX5400 makes noise. Charging takes about 30 seconds. When it's finished, the On light stops flashing and stays on.
Caution: Never turn off the EPSON Stylus CX5400 while the On light is flashing, unless the Stylus CX hasn't moved or made noise for more than 5 minutes.

Scanner Error

Hi do you have a scanner transportation lock? on the unit where you actually place the document or on the glass area on the very right hand or left hand side do you have a switch that has a scanner logo or picture? showing lock and unlock pad? position it to unlock pad after turning it off, just toggle it 3-5x then position it on unlock position then turn it back on and try copying again.

Epson CX5400. I have 2 and both are giving 'error'red light and message 'scanner error' see documentation and caqll service if necessary'. I have rung an Epson Service centre and they say it is not...

Please follow the steps below to resolve your issue.

1. Turn off the printer.

2. Lift the scanner cover.

3. Toggle the transportation lock five times, ensuring that it is in the unlocked position, towards the back of the scanner.

4. Turn on the printer, and the error should be cleared.

Update me if you are still getting the error message.
