Would like clarification. Is the engine turning over at all? Is the starter pinion engaging? The electric start circuit is totally separate from the ignition circuit and will not affect the running of the engine at all.
Nothing happens. No sounds, no movement what so ever,
I'll turn it over to wefixem. See ya' -- good luck !!

If you have a new battery installed and it is fully charged, find the in line fuse, usually located near the starter solenoid, and make sure it is no blown. Replace if necessary. Let me know what you find and we'll move on from here.
Its quite common, most riding lawn mowers aren't as complicated as cars. Topically, reversing the polarity on a riding lawnmower won't damage it. What will happen is the mower will turn over just fine but the started will run in reverse which causes the gear to not engage the motor. So you will hear the starter turn but nothing else. Once the battery is connected properly, the motor will fire and run without issue

This could have just damaged the battery (if lucky). Do you have a multi-meter to check the battery ? If so, let me know and we can further discuss.

I figured I ruined the battery so I tried a different battery with no luck. I do have a multimeter but will have to find it. What can I check next?
thx for the help
I would next check the starter. The first check would be to meaure the starter's resistance with the ohm setting on the multi-meter. Disconnect the red lead on the starter and place the ohm-meter lead on the starter terminal and to a grounding spot on the chasis. Please, let me know what reading you get. Based on this reading there are additional steps.

I got a reading of around 6
