During the middle of a heavy printing job today, I got two of these 940x.xx errors for the first time ever on this printer (1 year ownership, about 1100 pages printed), one for the black cartridge, and then for the cyan. I followed the instruction provided here:
http://support.lexmark.com/index?pmv=print&page=content&locale=en&userlocale=EN_US&id=SO4792
Removing and reseating the toner cartridges didn't help, nor did removing and reseating the developer units. Only replaced the toner cartridges with new ones did the trick.
The two defective cartrides were each Extra High Yield units, both lightly used. I've contacted Lexmark Support, and asked them if they will exchange these defective cartridges for new ones.
It will be best to contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for further assistance since the suggested troubleshooting steps did not resolve the issue.
A replacement maybe needed.

To Orlando:
Actually, (a) the suggested troubleshooting steps DID resolve the problem, in that the last step recommends replacing the toner and/or developer unit for the color in question. Fortunately, I only had to replace the toners, since I don't have new developer units lying around.
And (b) I already mentioned in my post that I had contacted Lexmark Support, but not for further assistance (since none was needed), but to request replacements for the defective cartridges. May I say that Lexmark Support was extremely swift, professional and accommodating in their response. I've very pleased with the manner in which they handled my inquiry.

A 94x.xx TMC Error indicates that the printer has failed to detect the Toner Metering Cam for a specific cartridge. For further assistance, please contact Lexmark Technical Support.
Remove the toner cartridge, and inspect the lenses on the toner meter cycle (TMC) card.It is positioned on the right side of the toner cartridges
Are the lenses blocked, or dirty? Clean them
If damaged replace them
