I have a whirlpool front loading apartment size washer. When I close the door and its on any cycle, the extra rinse button just keeps blinking and the machine is unresponsive. If I put it on the stop position, then both the start and extra rinse button blink. I have unplugged it and left it over night, no luck.

this means your drain pump is clogged--- there are 3 screws at the bottom of the lower front panel. Remove these screws and there is a drain pump cleanout located in the middle. Twist this off by hand can clean out the debris--- WATCH OUT LOTS OF WATER will come out so have towels ready.

Turn off extra rinse switch or pull wire going to it. If water is slow the water valve may have a restriction in it. Remove hoses and check for blockage in the hose screens.
