OBD 11 scanner reads from 1996 to later models, your car is obd 1 and needs obd 1 scanner there is other way but for that you need the automobil manual repair.

You may need to send it in for diagnostics. The engine light on is letting you know that the PCM has identified a fault. This requires the use of a scantool to read the stored codes within the PCM. Code readers usually help but a larger scantool tends to be more informative. It is normal to see the traction control and brake light warning lights turn on when the engine warning lamp illuminates. The easiest way to reset a check engine light on almost any modern car is to disconnect the battery wait five minutes and connect it back up. This will not tell you why the check engine light came on. For that you need a ODBII scanner, but if the issue was a gas cap left off and you have fixed that, then check engine the light should go off. I have found that many auto parts stores will read your car's ODBII codes for free.
You cant just turn check engine light off. You have to hook car up to a code reader or scan tool and read trouble codes. Repair trouble codes then erase codes and if problem was repaired check engine light will turn off.
It takes a Code Reader to clear the check engine light. If you have one just go to the menu and choose clear codes, and it will clear out all codes and the light should go out. However, if you do have codes stored on you computor, right them down and find out what they are for, they may be the reason the light is on. If a simple code reader was hooked up to read the codes perhaps the code reader is only good for the generic codes and your PCM has model specific codes stored in it. Some code readers cannot read those codes. A shop scanner may be needed to get codes.
with a test light test the ALDL plug for battery power the pin right next to it willl be ground. ( hook the test light to power and a ground will light the light) the check engine light should come on and if you crossthe upper two pins in the aldl the check engine light should flash out the codes. you disconnect negative battery cable, for at least 5 minutes, will wipe out memory and reset problem codes, after you start engine. You will start a new set of any problem codes.
