I hooked my ipod up to the usb port in my car and it works great. My problem now is whenever I unhook it to use with my headphones it wont play any music. When I plug it into the usb in the car it picks right back up. I have tried what seems like everything. Any help would be appreciated.
First, connect the ipod to your computer and hit reset, like when you get ready to download music, second check the ear phones, make sure its pluged in all the way.

This may mean that charging is not supported, the voltage/current may not be correct. Check the car system to see what ipods are supported - iphone uses more current than the ipod generally. Can you try the line in via headphone jack?
are you using the pioneer ipod cord that has the usb and audio and video connections? if you only hook up the usb it is not going to work. you need the audio hook up also.
USB wires are universal, so No you shuouldn't need another wire. My friend had a similar problem with his new AUDI 58 plate. (shares the same "VAG" parts bin as your car)
He found that his new ipod was not compatible, and Audi said they need to upgrade their software. Audi dealer Re-imbursed him the cost of ipod.
check with your Dealer and find out which versions of ipod ARE compatable. i've noticed quite a few things with Ipod compatibility dont support the iphone. & now there's a new iphone just to make things more difficult. Good Luck.
ANSWER:
The headphone jack will not charge your iPod. Only the USB will charge your iPod.
However, the headphone jack will play music, but the USB will not play music from your iPod.
REASON:
The headphone jack does not provide any power to charge your iPod. It isnly has enough power to recieve a music signal.
REASON WHY YOU CANNOT PLAY IPOD THROUGH THE USB:
The USB is only intended to be used with a flash drive or external hard drive with a folder structure containing either .mp3 or .wma files.
The way the USB works on the system is that it reads all the files and folders on the entire device and will say "reading" until it reads all the files and folders. This should only take a few seconds but if there is tons of files it may take longer.
Main problem: An iPod contains much more than just music files and folders - it contains an entire operating system. Worse, the operating system which the iPod uses is protected, keeping other devices except for iTunes from reading the music files.
TO PLAY MUSIC FROM USB (NOT IPOD):
You will need to use a flash drive or external hard drive with your USB. This device can only contain music, and the music must be organized into folders. Your iPod will not work. However, you can use Auxiliary input using a cable which both ends are 1/4" headphone jacks, one end going to the iPod and other plugged into your stereo.
SOLUTION:
To charge your iPod, you need to plug it into USB.
However, to play music, you need to plug your iPod into the headphone jack.
Good Luck!

Are you trying to hookup thru USB? Unless its ipod compatible it wont work (and its not). Your only choice is to buy an RCA to mini headphone cable and play it thru the input of your choice.
The problem is that Apple rewired the USB port on both the ITOUCH and the IPHONE. hey've made it an Apple only connection now . Run out of your headphones to the AUX in on radio
uninstall itunes and the ipod software then reload everything it and if u have more then one usb slot make sure u put it back in the one u use to load it with because sometimes the computer is very picky with that. its worked for me when mine does that so maybe it will work for u
