Check the compressor see if there is a fitting with the screw and inside the screw has a pin. If the compressor has this fitting, that for the Freon R-22 charge use. good luck!

There is no port unless you use a line tap if your refrigerator is less than 10 years old the manufacturer will pay for the repair unless it will continue to leak and compromise your compressor
Compressor in your car? refrigerator? home air conditioner? Generally compressors die due to insuffecient lubrication. Automotive compressors die due to the fact that the oil in the system is flowing around in the system with the refrigerant. As the refregerant leaks out the oil leaks out with it. re charging the refregerant starts the cycle over again and if oil is not added the end result will be destruction eventually. Also the automotive compressor workes in the hottest of enviroments is usually not used for half of the year (seals dry out ect) and is subjected to intense vibration which dosen't help. Home compressors usually last almost forever and refrigerator compressors most of the time outlive the box they cool since the are in use all the time.
It may be overheating, but chances are it has a high limit control switch which may be bad or it is overcharged with freon, in any case the limit and/or the freon charge needs to be verified by a qualified person who know the proper method's for charging and verify charge. The hotter outside temps cause the high side pressure to rise, with a properly charged system it should operate properly even at 120 degree temps.
Good day,
It could be, as you said, the compressor going bad or it's possible the start relay clipped to the compressor body is failing.
If it repeats the problem, you could unclip the relay from the compressor and replace it with a new one.
However, since you still have 2 years factory warranty on the compressor I would suggest you call GE or a GE factory authorized service company. If it's the relay, you will be charged for the repair, but by doing that you will maintain the integrity of the compressor warranty, especially if the repair turns out to be short lived and it turns out the compressor needs to be replaced.
That's usually mounts inside the compressor. It could still last awhile so if you can put up with the noise just wait for it to quit before replacing the compressor or getting a new fridge.
How old of a unit is it? Chances are it is R-22. If it is newer than last year it may be R-410a. The unit should indicate what type, and charge (lbs/oz) on the nameplate of the outdoor condensing unit. Hope this helps.
Keep looking for the access on the high and low side. Some of the valves look a little different but you should be able to find where to hook the gauges. R12, R22, and 134a all charge the same way and use the gauges and hoses. just make sure you have pressure temperature chart. I hope this helps
Depending on the age of the unit it does take a 134a freon charge or 12 or 22. when fully charged unit should cool properly. need to check door seal for suction issue. the unit does need a good charge to cool. it could also be a restricted sealed system issue.
Time to unplug the refrigerator. We need to check the compressor, start capacitor and start relay. If you do not unplug until we solve the problem the internal overload inside the compressor will be damaged. I am ready to help you on this just let me know, Sea Breeze
if the compressor is running your ref. should be getting cold. Their is a defrost timer but when it is in defrost the compressor shuts off. I think you do have a leak. any further question let me know.
