Why do Whirlpool Duet washers have such a problem with "over sudsing"? And how to prevent it?

The "oversudsing" problem is usually due to operator error. These new front loaders require the use of HE laundry detergents. These greatly reduce the sudsing issue. They also require VERY LITTLE detergent. For example, a normal-size laundry load only requires 1-2 TEASPOONS of HE laundry detergent. Most folks use much more than that, causing a possibility of oversudsing.

See this link for more info.

Oversudsing

This is common as often too much detergent is used. This builds up overtime and effects the washers performance. Try running a few loads dry (no detergent) keep doing until no sudsing can be seen when machine is agitating

Oversudsing Stops cycle

Oversudsing causes some dishwashers to trigger the flood switch. This is because the suds overflow and leak through the air holes. As soon as the flood switch is triggered inside the dishwasher it shuts itself off.

Wait for the suds to disppear and the flood switch to dry off. Use recommended type of detergent.

Tub leaks, with a partially filled tub (2.5 inches measured from the lowest point over the pump assembly.) Promblem occured after the washer was idle for 3 weeks. Have just replaced the main water inlet...

I am assuming leaking when it is running, not sitting idle. Leaking from the door? Fill and run unit for 1 minute with no detergent. Open door. Are suds present? Suds turn into water when they drop to the floor. Suds can flow over the lip of the tub and drip to the floor. Oversudsing, Sometimes old detergent breakdown. Rinse aid dispenser leaking will cause oversudsing. Combination of all in one products will cause many problems. If suds are present after running unit a minute, pour a cup of cooking oil in unit. Run and fill it a few times until suds are gone. Possible most common cause is dispenser latch grommet.

The washer seems to leak a small amount of water, less than a cup after each wash. It looks like it is coming from the back underneath. Checked the filter and such.

You may have an oversudsing condition which will cause it to leak like this. It can cause permanent damage over time.

Try to use one eyedropper full of HE detergent, either the liquid stuff or powdered dissolved in hot water. Use vinegar for fabric softener it will rinse the load clean. Run it on a hot cycle first with a cup of vinegar to flush the detergent residue from the drum, no laundry, and see if the water runs clear and/or if it leaks, if the problem occurs you may be facing a gasket breach. More often than not it's due to oversudsing. They tell you NOT to use regular detergent and that is why.

HELP..Oversudsing? Water won't drain on Frigidaire ATF600ES

Check your exit hose spigot, it may be clogged. This is if your filter is all clean. There should be air for passage in the standpipe behind. Your hose should not fit airtight into the standpipe and neither too deep into it. Snaking out your standpipe would be good too.
Use only front loading powders.

Hotpoint aquarius dishwasher

Oversudsing
This can be due to using a laundry or handwash detergent instead of a specific dishwasher detergent instead. It could also be due to excessive amounts of rinse aid in the dispenser or certain food soils that contain a high level of protein such as eggs.
