Check that the arm outlet jets at the trailing end of the arms are not blocked with food particles and other solid matter. This often happens and the arm is unable to turn because the water jet that is supposed to drive the arm does not have the force to rotate it.

I use siemens dishwasherand recently noticed some grit like substance left on my dishes etc after every wash

There should be a screen under the spray bar. Make sure that is clean. So "grit" is not recirculated in the wash cycle. Is "grit" showing up in your house water elsewhere? Check with clear water glass. Also consider testing with a competitive wash compound to see if there is any difference. A sample or from your friends.

Grit in clean glasses and on dishes

Mary do you have a water softener? If so, only use 1 tablespoon of dry dishwashing detergent per wash. Don't use tablets or liquid soaps. Too much soap will wear down the items you wash, leave streaks and pock your dishes. That might be what the sandy grit is. Also, to get rid of the grit inside of your washer you can buy a special dishwasher cleaner at almost any hardware store. Always try to use a rinse-aid. Make sure your drain filters are clean. Hope this helps. Jewels

Leaves fine grit inside glasses, cups, etc. Dirtier dishes than before washing.

Do you have hard water? Many states have passed laws that outlawed phosphate as an ingredient in dishwasher detergent. If you have hard water, the detergents don't work very well anymore. The "fine grit" is probably hard water deposits (calcium and magnesium). Not harmful but it looks awful on your dishes. There are some new products that were designed to solve this exact problem. They are inexpensive and effective. Can't say the name or I'll get banned (again). Internet search will uncover it.

How do I access and clean the grinder filter on my MBD9? Glasses and plates have dried grit on them after the wash cycle is complete.

Start the wash cycle without dishes or detergent.
Once the wash cycle is established open the door and por in 2 cups of white vinegar and resume the wash cycle.
The vinegar will break down and clean the residue in the system.

The soap dispenser door will not stay closed. Also, there seems to be grit on the glasses after washing the dishes. What is the best product to use to clean the inside of the dishwasher? Thank you

New state and federal guidelines were established for phosphatecontent in the detergents. The newer version contain no phosphates and are really poor at cleaning.

Dishwasher deposits dirt on dishes. Grit, small particles.

I have the same problem. We cleaned the dishwasher out because the grit was coming from the dishwasher...however, we still have dirt/grit in our dishes, but a lot less. How do we get rid of this all together?

Seems that food particles are "regurgitating" back up into the dishwasher and leaving grit on dishes - primarily glasses and silverware. Have had dishwasher probably 3 years -maybe less. Don't know what...

That "grit" you are referring to is actually coming from your detergent. It is part of the cleaning enzymes that assist in scrubbing your dishes. If it is ending up on your dishes, you are on the right track. You need to check the main wash pump and clean as necessary to ensure there are no obstructions on the sump area. The drain pump inlet is also in this area and should additionally be checked for debris. If you could please post back with a model number, I may be able to give you further guidance on how to disassemble the spray arm so you can access this area.

Maytag dishwasher quiet series 400. Dishes have hard stuck on grit and food particles after rinsed and dried.

Very common problem is soap build up in these machines. Try putting it into a wash cycle with no dishes, and no soap. Let it wash for about 5 minutes, and then open the door. If you see alot of soap suds, then soap build up is the problem. Try doing a couple loads with no soap, and no dishes, and throw a cup of vinegar into the machine halfway through the wash. Repeat as necessary. This should solve your problem.

Dishwasher Grit?

Hi julie

Chances are you are using to much detergent and the water is not hot enough. cut back on the detergent and run your hot water tap at the sink first and that should fix it.

Crusty stuff on glasses after wash cycle

I never figured out what caused this problem. I cleaned it and took it all apart, could not find any debris lodged anywhere. However, I solved this problem! I now only use Cascade Complete dishwasher detergent. Has to be the "complete" version of Cascade. No more grit - nice clean dishes now and sparkling glasses.
