I would suggest the interlock or door sensor is malfunctioning which will only become worse each time you have to slam the door.

As I sit here with my Maytag Neptune MAH8700AWW torn apart, I can tell you it is impossible to unlock and the 800 number is no help. They tell you to unplug it for 5 minutes. Some web posts talk about a "magical release cord" under the top cover but it does not exist.
Sorry no theres not,And when you get the throw rug out do not put these in there they do a lot of damage they can clog the pump.First thing try pushing the start button agin you well have to do this several times the machine has to drain before the door opens,when it open up.put draino-max and let it stand for 1-2hrs and run machine no clothes.And no more throw rugs
In front loader machines there is a safety latch that stops you from opening the door if there is water in the machine. I think it needs power to release the latch, I am not familiar with this model.
You probaly need to drain the water off somehow.
