That's the way this camera works. The D60 works as SLRs have worked for half a century. You view through the viewfinder, which views through the lens. The screen is for menus, setup, and image review, not for shooting. The LiveView feature, which turns your dSLR into a point&shoot camera, is a relatively new feature in dSLRs. Nikon introduced it into their lineup with the D3 and D300, and it took a while to trickle down to their entry-level dSLRs. While it's now in all their models, it's not in the three-year-old D60.

Sorry if that wasn't the answer you wanted to see, but there it is.

No image showing on screen

Is there an image showing in the eyepiece/viewfinder? If so, look for and press a small button labeled 'EVF/LCD' to switch the image to the screen.

Unable to see image on lcd or viewfinder but power ok.

Hi,
It is known problem of ccd imager chip failure in few Canon models and your S2 IS got that problem too, ccd imager chip will be replaced to get live view in camera mode to take fresh pictures.
Local camera repair shop will help you to replace ccd imager chip in camera or click Canon CCD Imager Support and talk to them if they can replace it for free.
Hope this info will help you.
Thanks.

LCD SCREEN

LCD = Lousy Camera Device? Get used to using the optical viewfinder. The LCD is great for reviewing images after you've taken them, but it leaves a lot to be desired as a viewfinder. Keeping your camera steady is no small feat at the best of times, but being forced to hold the camera away from your body to view an image through the LCD adds a new level of instability to the picture-taking process.

Viewfinder

Since the viewfinder sees the subject different than the picture taking lens, we recommend using the LCD monitor screen for taking macro pictures. The image previewed on the LCD monitor will be the exact image that is taken.
