Difficult call there as whirlpool has a strange manor especially with the larger units. I had a callout on a double door whirlpool unit once and the compressor wouldn't come on but i couldn't find anything wrong. Anyway, i decided to leave the fridge untl the next day giving it a chance to possibly come on. About 5 hours later the customer called and said unit running very well and no more problems. Basically leave on for a few hours and see. If no output then call a tech .The testing procedures need equipment and electrical info..

Possibly has a restricted capillary tube. Possibly has a extremely dirty condenser coil. Possibly has a bad compressor which will run but has bad valves so it doesnt actually pump the refrigerant. If the condenser coil has a fan (unlikely) it may be dead and causing the unit to run much higher pressures than normal which could cause this. Only thing you really could do would be clean the condenser coil. Anything else would need to be repaired by an Refrigeration Mechanic.
SOURCE: Freezer makes intermittent fan noise
one time i ran into this problem and found out the lady was putting hot things in the freezer creating alot of moisture. check your door seal also make sure its sealing if it had gaps you can heat it up with a hairdryer to streach it out.

My husband and I had the same thing happen with our whirlpool freezer. Loud noise when the fan was running. Kept getting worse. Yesterday we decided we needed to check it out before it quit altogether. We unplugged and unloaded it first. We removed a panel in the lower portion inside which revealed the fan. What was wrong with ours was the fan blades were hitting some screws because the blades had over the years worked their way forward closer to the fan motor and was causing the screws to cut into the blades. It wouldn't have taken too many more days until the blades would have fallen off completely. We took the screws out that held the fan and motor assembly and then carefully slid the blades away from the motor so contact would not be made with the screws. Simply reinstalled and plugged back up and it is working good as new. Still plan on ordering a new fan blade to install later.I think we will put a dot of jb weld or something on the rod so it will block the fan from sliding that close to the motor again. This is something that I plan on contacting Whirlpool about. Good luck. Hope this helps. BTW...if this is your fix, a new fan blade well cost you under ten dollars and it will be easy to install without having to pay a pro??
