I have a Magnavox 51" Projector TV. Model 51MP392H/17

Hi,
I have a Magnavox 51" Projector TV. Model 51MP392H/17.The TV does not
turn on when I hit the power button. The only thing that does happen is that
when I do hit the power button, the button itself turns a solid red for a few
seconds then it flashed red for another few seconds then it goes off. Any take
on this? Thank you

Well I forgot to mention that when I do turn on the TV the button flashes 9 times then pauses for a second and repeats the flash 9 times over again.

Is this a error code for the 51MP392H/17 ?

Thank you
Joe

Hello bullmuscle,

This is a power supply problem, I would suspect the HV power supply because the primary and secondary supplies anymore are tied to the HV power supply. This type of repair requires certain pieces of equipment, to test voltages, look at signals, and to if need be test for shorts in inductors (Switching PS transformer and Flyback transformer). I would not recommend that you try to fix this yourself, The cost for this type of problem is not that expensive and can be done in one evening, if the parts are available. You may be fortunate and it could be just a blown fuse, in the HV or LV power supply circuit

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

No Picture No Sound Magnavox Rear Projection Television

Actually I have this TV and you need 2 Convergence IC's STK392-120's (120's and 150's will work) of course order 2 of the same type I'm using replacement 150's they allow for a little higher heat and were cheaper ALSO you need to replace the 12 resistors with 6.8 ohm metal film resistors, make sure they are metal film! don’t skimp out here I did and then they blew and fried my IC's and I had to replace everything again!

Great reference link that I posted pictures on, check out page 3

Where I got all my parts that worked:
Suburban Electronics http://www.suburban-elect.com/

Manual Library you should find all you need here:
http://www.techlore.com/group/2/list_downloads

What you need:
(2) STK392-120 OR STK392-150 IC chips
(12) 6.8 Ohm Metal Film resistors
set of star screw drivers
15 watt pencil solder pencil, DO NOT use a high watt iron you will fry the surface mounted item.
good leaded solder, and flux

BTW if you don’t plan on trying this and are going to throw out the TV, I still need a IC convergence board for a 51MP392H/17 TV I'm fixing, I'm willing to pay S/H and buy your IC board that’s not been tampered with. [email protected]

Philips rear projection tv-wont turn on

Sounds like your Convergence chips failed, were your red/blue/green colors slowly seperating or was the picture starting to curve on the top or bottom or both? if so see below general post.
Also what model # is your TV and what size?

Magnavox 51MP392H/17

No, if the Red doesnt adjust with the remote, You will need to replace both STK392-120 Convergence ICs. Its a fairly easy job if you have basic soldering skills, and you will also need about four 6.8 ohm 1 watt resistors for your model. You can get replacement ICs and resistors at the following link and they provide free instalation instructions with pictures. Heres the link.

51 magnavox projection tv-color mixing wrong

The are controls on the inside of the tv above the circuit boards for focus and to turn up intensity of the projector lamps (red, green, and blu). If you turn it up too far all three projector lamps kick off. If this happens, power off the set and turn down the lamp that you turned up. Power it back on and slowly turn the projector lamp up until the picture looks OK. You have to take off the panel on back of set to get to the controls.
