sounds like your trans. is going out try using a transmission fluid additive called LUCAS STOP SLIP it will temporarily fix it for smooth driving although some people have reported their slipping permanently stop.
There is only 1 transmission for a 1994 Licln Town Car. Its a AODE, Automatic Overdrive Electronic trans. Earlier trans were AOD, non electric. Before that it was a C-6. After the AODE, your transmission, was a 4R70 trans. The trans will need to be rebuilt or replaced with a salvage yard unit if its slipping, or making noises. If you have it rebuilt, make sure you get at least a 3yr/50k warranty. Most salvage yard trans will make it 12m/12k, so if the rebuilder is confident about his or there rebuild, he should give you that. The original one lasted how long? 1-800-950-4644 ext 203, Jeremy can help you. Rockauto.com for just parts. Hope this helps you.
#1 check your fluid level #2 make sure the shifter linkage is ok #3 more than likely the reverse band is broken seen it many times on the 4r70 transmission the ear where the servo apply's the band breaks off tranny needs to be removed and disassembled for inspection

WELL ITS RECOMMENDED TO ALWAYS REMOVE FROM OVERDRIVE WHEN TOWING TO PREVENT TRANS DAMAGE. POSSIBLY HAD A PROBLEM ALREADY AND THIS WAS THE FINAL STRAW,SORRY DUDE. USUALLY THERE 4R70 TRANSMISSIONS ARE GOOD TRANSMISSIONS. POSSIBLY A BAD SOLENOID OR ISSUE IN VALVE BODY,DON'T CONDEMN INTERNALS YET UNTIL HAVE A TRANS TECH INSPECTS IT. THEY HAVE A FEW UPDATED FOR THESE TRANSMISSIONS ALSO
