Scan Problem When I initiate a scan, not to print, but to save to my computer, from Word I go to insert: picture: from scanner, and I select Custom Insert. I get the ScanGear window and if I select Scan or Preview the MP160 begins humming and it tells me not to open the cover because it is processing calibration data. Then it tells me it is scanning. Then suddenly I get an error message saying it cannot communicate with the printer because the cable may be lose or the printer is not turned on or whatever. "Scanner driver will be closed." Of course it has been communicating with the printer all along! What is going on? The error message is Code: 2,155,0. The same thing happens if I just push the scan button on the printer and follow the instructions on my monitor, it begins a scan and then tells me it can't communicate with the printer!

thank you, well I paid the $15 for the premium assistance program and the expert had me uninstall all my Canon printer software and then re-install it from the disk and I have the same problem. She mentioned I should see if I can take the printer back and have it repaired on warranty. I am using Windows XP . How do I use a lower resolution for the scan? (By the way, Thank you!)

Does this printer scanner scan to save to the computer and if it does how do I do that.

What OS are you using? How is the all-in-one connected to your computer. To scan to the computer, you need to install the full software package (if it is available for your OS). If only the OS drivers are available, you will be able to save scans. However, you can only initiate the scan from your computer. Additionally, if you have the all-in-one connected to a print server (or router USB port), the scan features will not work. (The scanner requires two-way communication with the computer and can fail if you use a USB hub, bad cable, or a long cable. Thus try a new cable of less than 6' in length if you can't launch a scan from the computer.)

Next: use the Canon software (MP Navigator EX) and initiate a scan. You will need to adjust some settings to make sure that the program knows what program to open when you press the scan to computer button. The monitoring software will need to be running to identify the button presses. To set this, select Preferences, then the Scanner Button settings tab. Select Actions and then choose Save to PC in the Event drop-down menu. Use the first scan to set the default scan preferences and destination folder. Then click OK to save the settings.

If you do not have the MP Navigator program, use any scanning program on your computer. For Windows 7 and 8, there is Windows Fax and Scan that can work with the MP252. The Apple Macintosh has a similar program. Third party software will also work (Nuance's PaperPort, for example).

See page 318 in the Advanced section of the manual (available from Canon) for screen captures of setting MP Navigator. http://www.canon-europe.com/Support/Consumer_Products/products/Fax__Multifunctionals/InkJet/PIXMA_MP_series/PIXMA_MP252.aspx?type=manuals .

I hope this helps.

How to use my hp photosmart C5280 All in One scanner unsing mac leopard

When you install the Full Feature software for your printer, you receive the HP Photosmart Studio imaging software and the HP Utility printer management software. You can use either of these programs to scan, and can create custom settings in both.

In general, use HP Photosmart Studio to scan pictures if you want to edit them to adjust color, crop, remove red eye, etc. Use HP Utility to set up scan tasks you use often, such as scanning to a certain folder or software application, or attaching the scanned item to an email. If your printer has a display, you also use HP Utility to designate which scan tasks should appear on the printer display menu when you start a scan from the controls on the printer.

Make sure that the printer is connected to the computer. Turn it on. Place the item with the print side down on the scanner glass.

Use HP Photosmart Studio to start a scan: Click the HP Photosmart Studio icon in the Dock. Click the Scan button. Select your HP product in the Device Name list, if necessary, and then click Continue. From the Scan Profiles screen, click either Pictures or Documents. Click Profile Settings , and then adjust any settings in the Capture , Adjust , and Page Options (for documents) or Enhance (for pictures) tabs as appropriate. Click Scan. When prompted, select Yes or No to add another page to the scan. The scan preview opens then click Return to close the preview and save the scan. Type a name for the scan in the Save As box. Click the Format drop-down list, select the file format you want, and then click Save.

HOW DO I SCAN PICTURES TO MY MAC OSX

Load the item to scan You can scan from the scanner glass or from the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) tray, if your product has one. Make sure that the product is connected to the computer. Turn the product on. Load the picture or document: Scanner glass : Place the item with the print side down on the scanner glass, and then position it according to the engraved guides around the glass (usually on the right-front corner or the left-front corner). Close the scanner lid. ADF : Place the item into the document feeder tray. The printed side faces up and the top edge goes into the tray first. Adjust the width guides to fit the item. CAUTION:Do not load photos in the ADF. Use the scanner glass instead to prevent damage to photos. Use HP Scan to start a scan Use HP Scan to scan items and edit them to adjust resolution or color, crop, remove red eye, etc. To scan a picture or document, follow these steps: Open the HP Scan program in the Hewlett-Packard folder. From the Scan Profiles screen, click either Pictures ( ) or Documents ( ) . Click Profile Settings , and then adjust any settings in the Capture , Adjust , and Page Options (for documents) or Enhance (for pictures) tabs as appropriate. If you want to save these settings as a custom scan profile to use in the future, follow these steps: Click the drop-down list to the left of Profile Settings , and then click Duplicate Selected Profile . Type a name for the profile in the text box under the profile icon. The new profile saves under Custom Profiles. Click Scan . Make any desired changes to the scan preview by using the icons available in the toolbar and the Adjust window. NOTE: You can use + and ? buttons in the Bottom bar to add or delete pages in the OUTPUT list. You can reorder pages by dragging them to new positions in the Sidebar. Select a destination from the Toolbar: If you opened HP Scan from other software, and want to send the scan to that software, click Return . If you are ready to save, print, or send the scan to a specific destination, click Save , Print , or Send . NOTE: If you are saving the file, make sure to select the file format that you want.

Scanning to import to a computer

Normal 0 The best way to scan images to save on your computer is touse the scanner software on the computer. Not the scan function on the scanner.
You don't say what type of scanner and software you have but usually scannersoftware works this way:
1) Place photo on scanner
2) Open scanner software
3) Using the software, Initiate scan
4) Name the Scanned item and save it to your desired location/folder
Note: some applications will automatically save to --My Documents--My Pictures
5) Repeat process for each pic to be scanned.

Scanning a word document Deskjet F4180

Scanning a document is the same as scanning a picture, it must be done from within the document app. In this case I'm assuming you are using Microsoft Word.

Scan a picture and insert it in a document@import url(/Office.css); To do this procedure, your device (a scanner or a digital camera) must be connected to your computer and be TWAIN-compatible. You should also make sure that you have installed the device software that supports TWAIN.
Some devices come with more than one software program. If you are not sure what software is TWAIN-compatible, check the device documentation or contact the manufacturer of the device.
  1. Set up the picture in the scanning device.

  2. On the Insert menu in Microsoft Word, point to Picture, and then click From Scanner or Camera.

  3. If you have more than one device connected to your computer, select the one you want to use under Device.

  4. Do one of the following: If you want to use a lower resolution or you intend for your document to be viewed on the screen, click Web Quality.
  5. If you want to use a higher resolution or you intend for your document to be printed, click Print Quality.

  6. Do one of the following: If you're using a scanner and you want to use predefined settings to scan your picture, click Insert.
If you're using a scanner and you want to change image settings, or if you're using a camera, click Custom Insert. Then follow the instructions that come with the device you're using.
  7. When the image appears in the document, make any changes you want.

  8. You can use the tools on the Picture toolbar to make changes such as cropping the picture, and adjusting its brightness, contrast, and color.
Note The Insert button might be unavailable when using some scanners because the scanner software doesn't support an automatic scanning. Use the Custom Insert button instead.

How do i save a picture i scanned on my pc

Scanners use a method of interacting with applications called TWAIN. Go into the application you want the picture and insert from twain source. It'll scan and load the image. Your scanner probably came with a software for loading and saving images, but if you haven't got one...IRFANVIEW is free.

My Canon Imagerunner 2200 won't scan.

Sorry that was actually me...after i posted...it asked me to register...so i did.

Okay, you need to download Canon Network scangear from the Canon website. then take your document...put it on the top feeder...turn you scanner online...open up microsoft word 2003..insert, picture....from scanner or camera select network scangear....custom insert....then scan. The machine needs to be hooked up to a network...but note...a simple cross over cable or usb between pc and the photocopier will not work.
