I have a Garmin Nuvi 660 that I purchased from a police auction that requires a PIN to work. I don't have the correct paperwork for Garmin tech support to help.

Unfortunately without the receipt you won't be able to make this work. When a Garmin PIN is set the user is allowed to pick a location that they can go to in case they forget the PIN. If they turn the unit on while at that location the unit will not ask for the PIN. The only other way to reset the PIN is to sent it back to Garmin. If it was bought at a police auction they would have supplied you with some kind of a transaction record. I would call Garmin Support at 800-800-1020 M-T 8AM-6PM Fri 8AM-5PM Central time. Explain the situation to them and they might be willing to fix it for you. Normally if they are sent a GPS that doesn't come with a receipt they will contact the Police in the registered user's area. Brand new, the unit does NOT have a PIN. You need to contact the seller and ask them the PIN. Your only other options to unlock the unit are to take it to the location at which the PIN was entered or send the unit back to Garmin. Garmin will require proof of purchase before they will unlock and return the unit to you.

You have three options for unlocking a PIN locked Garmin:

1 - Enter the correct PIN
2 - Take the unit to the location at which the PIN was entered
3 - Send the unit back to Garmin

Unfortunately, these are your only options as this is a security feature to prevent unauthorized use of a stolen GPS.

The problem you have is the same problem the thief had - you cannot use this unit. The only way(s) to unlock the unit are:

1 - Enter the correct PIN
2 - Take the unit to the location at which the PIN was entered
3 - Send the unit back to Garmin

Be aware, however, if you send the unit to Garmin to be unlocked and you are not the owner of record at Garmin, they WILL NOT return the unit to you.

Sorry but that is a security feature. There is a chance you've purchased a stolen unit from ebay. Unfortunately, only Garmin can unlock it and they will require a receipt from a Garmin dealer.

No, you do not require an additional SD card for your unit in order for it to operate. Also, you can purchase ANY SD card and it will work with additional maps and POIs. They are upselling you.

It doesn't sound like you're buying from a reputable Garmin dealer. Make sure they're a Garmin dealer in case you have any problems.

You will have to send it back to Garmin showing proof of purchase. Garmin will clear the PIN.

It can't be reset without entering the correct PIN or driving to the security location. Failing this, the unit must be sent back to Garmin.

The only options you have when it comes to a locked unit is to enter the correct PIN, go to the location where the PIN was set, or send the unit back to Garmin. There is no way to unlock a PIN locked unit without the correct PIN or location.
