For a digital to analog converter box, connect your antenna cable to the converter box. Then pick your output connection. Either set the TV to channel 3 or 4 and connect the coax out from the converter to the TV or connect the composite video (AV) to one of the A/V inputs on the TV (change the TV source to the appropriate input). The source is changed with the remote (TV/Video button).
If you have other devices like a VCR in the connection sequence, you could connect the converter box to the VCR (and record on channel 3 or 4) and then connect the VCR to the TV as above. You will be limited to recording and watching the same program unless you get another converter box or tuner.
Programming the remote will depend on the box. For other set top boxes, the connections will be very similar.
I hope this helps.
