Canon 9900f scanner glass removal

I have a canon 9900f scanner, works fine, but the underside of the glass is dirty. I cannot see any obvious way of removing the glass ( no screws visible). How do I get to the underside of the glass?

I would not worry about the underside of the glass unless you are having problems. The focal length of the ccd that captures the image is very specific and probably will not pick up anything under the glass. It is normal for the underside to look foggy but it will not hurt anything.

To be clear, it is quite easy to remove the glass, but you shouldn't need to even if you can see the odd bit of dust. However, if you do want to (voiding warranty etc.) here's how:

  1. unplug and remove lid
  2. use philips screwdriver, remove screws in the two recesses of the main scanner body that the lid hinges slot into
  3. gently pry the black plastic part away from the grey plastic body, starting near the glass until it tilts up and away. be careful of the clips at the back end of the scanner
  4. the glass panel and grey surround can then be lifted and slid towards the back of the scanner and pulled free.

I have just installed Windows 7 and cannot get my Canon 9900f scanner to connect - it was previously installed with Windows XP. How can I obtain the correct Windows 7 software?

You have to go the the Canon website, follow links for support and downloads. You may have to enter details of your operating system and Scanner model as you go. You're looking for Win 7 drivers.

Hi jjheller

This site tells you only about the AC Adapter which you probably have unless you bought it secondhand.

Click on the tab for drivers and downloads, where you find scanning guide which you can download
Hope this will help.

I need to clean the underside of the glass on my Canonscan Lide20

How on earth did the underside of the glass get dirty?

Ok, never mind that... in the end, it's NOT worth it. In the old days, you could have since scanners were as big as printers are today... but now they are definitely NOT designed for the consumer to service. The scanner is designed for accuracy, even if you were to get it all apart, the odds that you maintain the precision and integrity of the bulb, the track on which the bulb moves, etc, are very slim.

Suggestion... How is the printer you have holding up? If it's getting on in age, it may be a wise investment to purchase a dual scanner/printer (as long as you are spending the money).

Hope that helps :)

Canoscan 9900F isn't recognized by any of my Mac software

you could try looking in system profiler, to see if the scanner is even recognised by the system - if not it's a connection problem.

try connecting via firewire instead of USB (or vice versa)

otherwise, see if vuescan recognises the scanner.

How to clean underside of platen?

The underside of the scanner glass can only be reached by a a canon service tech. The compartment is supposed to be sealed and dust-free, so if it has gotten dirty, you should send the unit back to Canon for servicing.
