Turns on, then shuts down before anything shows on monitor
The computer shuts down almost as soon as it starts up. Then it will not start up again until I unplug it and start over. Each time, it will just shut down again. I took the side panel off and watched the LEDs on the Mother board. A green light stays on near the CPU. When I turn it on, a red light flashes for an instant at the bottom of the board, near the board slots. I tried a different power supply with no change. I tried unplugging all the power cables to the drives with no change. I unplugged and reseated the memory chip and the CPU with no change. I don't have another CPU or memory chip of the correct type to try in it. Any suggestions?
I have the same problem, I just bought a whole new computer, but my CPU fan and heatsink let the CPU get up to 80 degrees, so I bought a new heatsink, and when I try to start up it shuts off before afull rotation of any fan happens...
Re: Turns on, then shuts down before anything shows on...
Is there more than one fan inside the computer? Did you double-check the connection from the fan to the motherboard? Sometimes a computer will shut down if it doesn't sense that the fan is turning on, to prevent the computer from overheating.

Sounds like either the Monitor is bad or the Video Card is bad. Try plugging another monitor on the computer and if it can't show a display then more than likely the Video Card is bad. If it shows on the monitor you just plugged in, then the original monitor is bad.
It is likely the computers video board that is failing, my best advice is to have it hooked up to another computer to decide which is the problem the monitor or the computers video card.
Not enough information. Please describe any monitor activity when you turn it on, do this while the computer is still off, unplug monitor, then plug back in. It should start automatically, then show the gateway logo, then go blank for several seconds, then show no input signal box, then shut down on its own. If it fails to do this it is probably that the power printed circuit board is failing, not delivering the proper power to the main board and/or the back lamps. One can have this board repaired inexpensively by a qualified electronic technician.
Had the same problem took it apart and found 5 capacitors on the power/inverter board swelled i replaced those with new ones then it worked perfect.. there were 2 1000uf 25v and 3 330uf 25v swelled.
This is a power supply problem in the monitor. There is an unstable component or components that are failing or you have some cold solder joints in the connections. The reason it turns on is that some components are self healing and will sometimes stabilize after warm-up periods.Cold solder joints sometime close after heating up in the circuit You should return to dealer for repair or replacement. Hope this helps you.
The monitor screen may be OK, but the monitor electronics are not. YOu state that the comuter works fine with a different monitor. That leaves out the video card. If you reall ywant confirmation of a bad
monitor, Try it on another computer ansdI am willing to bet that it
will again shut off. Take it to a shop for repair or replace it.
