I have a kenmore front load washer #41742052100. One of the top springs broke, we shut it of immediately because it was vibrating. I replaced the spring and two struts on the bottom. Now the drum motor doesn't get power. Do you have any suggestions where to look for switch of some sort?

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

The section on the Base should have a diagram of where the springs and vibration pads attach.

Ths following Whirlpool Service Manual for top load direct drive washers also has a section on the base and where the springs attach.

Check the Vibration damper rods to be sure that...
1. They are there and mount is solid.
2. If they are broken in 1/2.
3. The plastic knuckle mounts are not missing/broken.
4. There is oil in the shock absorber/spring section of the rods.

Also - there are suspension springs on the bottom of the tub that could be broken and/or missing.

Replace/repair as necessary.

IF THIS IS A BRAND NEW INSTALLATION - be sure you hav removed the basket shipping pins (4) that secure the tub during shipping.

I have recently moved, the movers forgot to put the shipping bolt in my washer. I noticed the canister was tilted a bit when it was put in the new house. It still runs fine, should I be worried?

Hi,

If it was hauled carefully and not dropped it usually is okay. Try loading it with a pretty full load of towels. If it spins up to full speed without excessive noise or vibration, everything is fine.

It's possible that one or more of the springs or pads has come loose or broken.

In order to get to them you have to remove the cabinet.

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Top load direct drive Whirlpool / Kenmore washers use a number of springs and plastic vibration pads between the base and tub to control vibration.

It's possible that one or more of the springs or pads has come loose or broken.

See the following for how to remove the cabinet to gain access to the springs and check them.

I have a Kenmore topload washing machine, model 23034101. It vibrates & walks. I have adjusted the front feet to insure it is level, locked the nuts on the feet, and have reset the back feet - several...

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?modelNumber=110.23034101

Look at the section for the Machine Base.

Kenmore / Whirlpool top load washers use a set of springs between the top and base of the tub, along with a set of vibration pads to control vibration and walking of the machines.

It's possible that one or more of the springs has come off or the pads have worn enough that the top frame is rubbing against the lower frame.

See the following Whirlpool / Kenmore service manual to better see how these springs / pads are used.

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/f7e2147fa98b28cf85257122007475cb/$FILE/L-55.pdf

You will have to remove the cabinet to get to the springs / pads. Here is a description of how to do it.

It appears that your washer may not have end caps on the console that remove. If so, slip a thin putty knife under the ends of the console to release the clips that hold it to the cabinet.

Washing Machine Dance

Cars, does the basket lean to one side? There might be a couple of issues. The coupler that seats between the motor and trans could be wollowed out causing vibration. Another is that one of the balance springs came off or broke. I'm going to attach a photo of the springs so you can see what this looks like. You can remove the whole cabinet to check things out or tip the washer back and take a look.
