I am on my 2nd foodsaver. My 1st one stopped working, which I later found out, was probably due to the bottom gasket. My 2nd one had the same problem. I called FoodSaver, and they suggested that I flip the gasket. That worked for a while. I called to order new gaskets (for V825, and I was told they don't make them anymore! Then, after talking with them again, they said that they were back-ordered! Today, I am online, and I cannot find any gasket for Model V825. I do not want to buy a new FoodSaver every year or so, because of a simple gasket problem! Any suggestions? Cindy Good

I replace my gasket with a piece of 3/8" Poly Foam Caulk Saver (found mine at Home Depot - @$2.00 for 20'). It's a snug fit in the gasket groove. Cut long enough so that the ends touch tightly. It will create a good air seal and works well.

Hi!

"I do not want to buy a new FoodSaver every year or so, because of a simple gasket problem!"

I have one just like that, but I don't use it much. The few times I used it, it worked OK.
Reading about your problem, I checked mine and noticed the gasket is just high density styrofoam. Sadly, this type of material degrades with use, moisture and mostly oil.

Then I Googled for some information and found some chatboards where it is said that this particular model does have a history of poor gaskets.

I suppose if you are using the FoodSealer a lot, it may be a good idea to upgrade to something more suitable. It will be more expensive but it will likely last you a long time.

I wish I could be more ... more encouraging and helpful.

Foodsaver vac 800 vauums but won't seal, sealer works with seal-only setting.

Chances are that you foam gasket are not doing their job anymore. You can make a test by humidifying them with a paper towel. If it's works, you are due to replace them. They will usually last about 2 to 3 years depending on the use.

They are available through ebay or Amazon

2001 Isuzu Trooper 4wd automatic trans. It will shift ou of 1st at about 20 mph into 2nd then loses power, rpm's drop until it slows to about 10mph then down shifts back to 1st. Any ideas why?

Sounds to me that your transmission is put itself into what is call (Limp Mode). This happens when the transmission fluid in the trans hydraulic valve body located on the bottom and in the trans pan are not within the parameters of the transmission computer. You can remove the trans pan and gasket to check for metallic material in the bottom of the pan. There is normally a strong magnet in the pan catch the material so I can't move freely through the transmission itself. It only takes a very small piece of foreign material to stop the flow of the valve body fluid. I would first take it to somewhere that had a automotive diagnostic scan tool that can read transmission codes to see if there are any active codes. Next you can drop the transmission pan yourself and look for material in it. Basically do a visually inspection and service the transmission fluid, gasket, and filter. Remember, all a automatic transmission is a extremely complicated fluid pump. If its pumping trans fluid properly it's probably working just fine. Been when the trans fluid gets hot, scorched, and stops moving. It will not work. Hope this helps

I have an older model Foodsaver. The machine will

This is likely happening because the unit cannot detect that a vacuum has formed, and the gaskets around the vacuum channel are the probable culprit. The Foodsaver gaskets will deform and/or dry out with time, just like in any device, but you don't necessarily have to replace them. I've tried this inexpensive solution on my own Foodsaver V2490, and it works perfectly.
Buy some food-grade silicone grease and apply it to both the upper and lower gaskets. I remove the gaskets and coat both sides with a thin layer of grease before replacing them in their respective channels. And since this grease will be absorbed and/or dry out with time, you will have to do this occasionally, so I also flip the gaskets (i.e. turn them over) whenever I apply the grease.
You can buy a 2 oz container of silicone grease at any dive store, or you can buy it over the Internet by searching for "Trident silicone grease".
This is a link where you can buy it for around $7.00:
Dolphin Dive Center
I do not work at this dive center, but I am a scuba diver and already had some grease that I use for the numerous rubber gaskets in my gear. The 2 oz. jar will last you several years, and you will find many other uses for it around the house since the grease will last longer than a spray.
