My 2008 Ford Escape clock seems to be losing time. What would make it do this. Initally we did have to replace the battery. Alternator is charging fine. Right before the old battery failed, the radio and clock stopped working all together. 2 days after the new battery was put in, the radio and clock started working again.

SOURCE: 2008 Ford Escape Horn Fuse keeps blowing after

I would trace the wire from the horn and see if it was inadvertently damaged when the alternator was installed. If you have a voltmeter, you can remove the horn fuse and check to see if there is continuity between the horn (non hot side) of the fuse and the car body. This would indicate a short in the wire running from the fuse box to the horn. You can also look around the alternator mounting area to see if any wires are being pinched. Hope this helps. Good luck!

SOURCE: 2008 ford escape-- power steering

Just off the top of my head I would say that the fluid level is low and/or the pump is sucking air into the system and is dropping pressure pressure after a while.

Testimonial: "the power steering is electric in a 20089 Escape. No fluid./"

Alternator light is on but everything is charging

if your car runs once started and everything works, its probably a bad sensor. maybe it got hit when the alternator was being replaced. but if your car ever loses power randomly, youll know what the first culpret is!!

Dear Sirs, I'm now living in VietNam, my friend is living in US. He already sent to me the Motorcraft GL979 alternator 2 weeks ago(The part number: 8L8T-10300-AA), but my car is 2004 Ford Escape 3.0V6,...

my guess is that you have no voltage from the alternator to the battery, what does the voltage read on the alternator when running? the ecm or ecu or whatever has no control over this, check the circuit from alt to batt and check ground also, either one will give you a headache

check your battery make sure it is able to take a charge. ,if the amps are good check your connection, from altenantor to battery. check voltage drops, battery drains. Your problem most likley seems to be
your battery. Your starter might also be draining your battery. You ll find the problem keep looking.

Own a 2005 Escape, have replaced the alternator three times and replaced the battery 4 times. They are now recommending replacing the computer. Any others with this problem?

If the alternator is what is going out, look at the alternator wiring, the large wire goes to the battery,it is hot all the time,do not remove it,just add a wire as large,or larger to it,and runit to the positive battery post, this will keep the alternator from working so hard to charge.

Battery won't hold charge

My 2002 Ford2.gif Escape had a similar issue later in 2006. My alternator died and I needed replacement. After replacing, the light would come on and off at times. When everything running (i.e. radio2.gif, air conditioner, driving lights) and tocuh electric windows up the power would lower and sometimes battery light on dashboard would come up. Original mechanic could find out what was going on and I lived for 2-3 years with it.

This past August 2009 after a long trip (i.e. 8 hours or so) my battery died. Brought to a auto parts place and they determined it was the baterry and the alternator. Since I was back on my home town I went to a good friend that is a mechanic and he fixed it for real.

He had a similar issue with three different Escapes coming back with alternator or baterry or both death. He found out that Ford has an official report for Escapes that when this happens the electric fan behind the radiator are short circuiting, affect direclty the baterry and alternator killing them, and needs replacement.

Try this and may work for you.

Battery Charge

The best way is to get a voltmeter and check the voltage of the battery with the truck running and not running. When the truck is running, the voltage across the battery terminals should be aboput 14.9 volts (showing the alternator is charging the battery). With the truck off, the battery voltage should be about 12 volts (showing that the battery is holding the charge). From there, you should be able to tell which is bad.
