The motor tries to start with a low hum, but it will not power up. The blades turn easily and the reset button is not out.

If blades rotate freely, then there is no stoppage.
If motor hums, then circuit and switch are good.
If motor will not start, and reset is not tripped, then disposal has gone bad.

Motors slow down and overheat, and then they stop working.
Each time you hear motor humming instead of rotating, the motor is overheating.
All motors stop working some time.

There are no repair parts for disposals.
Drain is not clogged, so sink is usable until disposal is replaced.

I have an old Cuisinart DLC 7 super pro. It's been a work horse. Today I tried to use it and it just hummed. Tried the pen in the little button place-- same thing. It's the motor just finally toast?

Motor may jammed. Try turning the blades manually with the unit unplugged, to free the motor. If it is free running but still hums when powered, then replace the capacitor. Check that the carbon brushes are seated on the armature and not stuck.

MY ROCKWELL 10 INCH TABLESAW SUDDENLY QUIT WORKING. IT TRIES TO COME ON WHEN I HIT THE START BUTTON, BUT BLADE TURNS 1/4 INCH THEN STOPS. CONTACTOR STILL HUMS THEN THE BREAKER TRIPS. PLEASE HELP!!

If the blade turns freely by hand, check the motor brushes. Most high quality power tools have easily replacable brushes, and they usually only cost a few bucks.

Garbage dispoal not working. The blades spin freely inside, the reset button has been reset, when you switch it on the moter makes a faint humming sound, and the allen wrench will not rotate either way.

You need a new disposal.
Free-rotating blades show there is no obstruction.
Humming says you have power.
Frozen allen wrench says bearings are rusted.
Motor is now overheating each timer electricity is turned on, and motor will overheat and stop humming.
At least the drain is clean and water is not flooding under the sink, which means you can continue using sink until disposal is replaced.

Dryer does not start when I push the on button the motor hums.

If the motor continues to hum afteer letting go of the button, then it is likely a broken drum belt. If the motor hums but stops when you let go of the button, something is preventing it from turning. This could be a seized motor or a drum that is stuck, or something caught in the fan blade.

The disposal only hums. I can turn the blades inside so there is no food stuck. I know there is a reset button but cant locate it.

I had the same problem, it was just humming, then after a few second the on board circuit breaker would cut out. After a little while I could hit the reset button and it would just hum again.

It turns out that the base of the disposal was jammed. There are 2 blades on the top that should spin freely, but the base plate that the blades are attached to also spins. In fact, that's what the motor drives. The two blades on top are not powered, they just flip back and forth as the base spins. So get a broom handle or a strong wooden spoon, stick it down in there, and try to pry the base plate free so it spins. That should do it.

Kenmore garbage dispsal that made humming noise for like 3 seconds then completly shut down. it's not the power. could the motor be burned out? i already checked the wiring.

Hi there: hate to say but it sounds like the Garb D.'s motor has failed. Perhaps due to a jam up in the blades. The motor will cook before the circuit breaker if the breaker it is on is greater than 15amp. Solution... Turn the power off and try to turn the grinding impeller blades.. If they spin freely on first attempt, which I doubt they will, then the motor is K-put. Hopefully it has a built in thermal trip and will reset itself. But while you have the power is off, clean it out. If you do that and it hums only, you will need to replace motor. sorry

Motor hums but shaft/blades will not turn. Believe shaft is frozen or possibly contains a "start" capacitor of some kind. Will not release and start using hand crank only (very stiff). Woth...

Isolate power from the fan and see if you can spin the fan blade by hand. It should move easily. If it does not then it is recomended that you replace the fan. The time it would take to replace the bearings in the motor would not be worth your efforts.
Most fans do not have a start capacitor for the reason being they are not under severe load.

Humming noise when turn on, but blade/motor not moving. Tried reset button and turn the motor with allen wrench. What else can I do?

its stuck, is it still under warranty. either the motor is bad or something is jammed in there. you need to turn the blades by hand or allen , if nothing, then the motor is somehow bad, need to replace.

My dishwasher won't actually turn on this morning. When I push the start button, it hums, and the lights by the cycles flash, for about two minutes, but it won't actually run through a cycle.

Your motor is probably stuck.
Remove power from the D/W.
Remove the lower access panel. The motor will be in front of you.
Turn the blades in the end of the motor counterclockwise until the motor turns freely. You will need a flat screwdriver to reach in and turn the blades.
When it frees, repower and try it again.

Hampton Bay 36" Fan Hums but won't turn

The motor has gotten tired now after being on 24/7. With the blades off, it would turn easily but the weight of the blades strain the motor. You could check that there is proper 110 volt current to the motor because anything less will cause that problem too. You can also help the fan start by spinning the blades while it is on. Short of these suggestions, it is time for a new fan.
