Microwave shuts off after a few seconds

My Microwave now shuts off after about three seconds of cooking. All of the lights light up for around 10 seconds, and then it resets to the time/date setup prompt. It does it every time now. For months before, it would randomly shut down in the same manner while cooking, but not at the three second mark, and not every time. Please help. I have the same problem with GE microwave that is above my oven. Model em03000hbb03, manufactured June 2005, Why has there not been any recall on these microwaves? There obviously is a malfunction in the making of these.

I have the same problem with my microwave. I start the microwave and it will work for about 3 seconds and then it stops and there is a scrambled display. I reset the clock and then try to microwave and the same thing happens. I have unplugged the system and tried again with the same results.

Some times you can reset it and it works somtimes you have reset it about 3 or 4 times before it will work and other times you can't get it to work at all no matter how many times you reset it. It is also a 2005 model

Hi We have the same microwave with the same problem. I bought the microwave in Jan 06 and it started doing the shutting down thing in April of 07. I called GE and was told that a part which is under warrenty is probably the problem, but I would still have to pay for labor. Just for GE to look at it is 79 dollars. To fix the problem it was around 169. The guy who fixed it said that I would be all set. However, this month ( almost 13 months after fixing it, it is doing it again. I am going to call them and ask them to fix it for free or I will purchase a different companies microwave.

I am having the same problem with my Dec.04 manufactured Spacesaver. It makes me sad because I really like everything about this unit but probably will replace it with another brand.

We are all in the same boat. It is very annoying. I think it is a sensor tripping.

LG microwave intermittently runs

I would try troubleshooting the "defrost circuit". The behavior sounds like the microwave is cooking in the defrost mode, where it actively cooks then stops allowing the food to rotate and the heat to spread then actively cooking again.

GE spacemaker microwave turns off during cooking and display goes black

Step 1:

Door Switch

If the microwave runs for a few seconds and then shuts off, a door switch might have failed intermittently. Check each of the door switches for any signs of overheating, arcing, or burning. Also check each of them for continuity. Replace any of the switches that is visibly damaged or that only has continuity intermittently

Step 2:

Main Control Board

If the microwave runs for a few seconds and stops there may be a short circuit in the main control board. Check other components first, these boards are often misdiagnosed.

Touchpad and Control Panel

If the microwave runs for a few seconds and stops the touchpad and control panel might be defective. There are several other components that can cause this problem, be sure to check any other components before replacing this board.

Touchpad

If the microwave runs for a few seconds and stops the touchpad might be at fault. This is not common. Generally speaking, if the microwave display is working and some of the buttons respond correctly but some don't, the problem is with the touchpad.

High Voltage Transformer

If the microwave runs for a few seconds and stops the high voltage transformer might have an intermittent short. This is not common. Check other components related to the microwave symptom first.

Thermostat

If the microwave runs for a few seconds and stops the thermostat might be defective. Watch our video on testing thermostat

1800 XL JVM1860BD - won't work

It sounds like your controller may be failing. Or it could be an electrical line problem. Any other electrical itmes giving you trouble? Has anyone measured the voltage level of your power line? It should be around 110-125 volts AC. If it's significantly lower or higher, you may have a bad connection in your breaker panel or in the wiring leading to the home.
