If your computer came with a motherboard disc the sound drivers could be on it
you might have to uninstall then restart your computer then reinstall both the sound drivers and the sound card make sure you have both of these devices backed up to a disc before uninstalling
a yellow? question mark means you need to install/update driver to do this
right click to install driver also
click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll to sound, video and game controllers you might see a yellow question mark? Right click to reinstall drivers
click start control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers select appropriate speakers also audio you will find 3 drop down lists make sure you have the correct settings there
also
click start control panel sounds and audio devices you can adjust the volume there also select speaker volume you can change your settings there you can also tick in the box place icon in taskbar
if his does not fix the problem

have you tried this control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers select the appropriate speakers from the drop down list or navigate to the device manager scroll to system devices + to expand, system speaker right click properties then select use this device (enable) also you might check
the speakers plug/outlet is usually at the back of the computer you will have to open up the computer to check the lead attached to the rear of the input plug make sure the connection is good
try cleaning your computer of dust using a fine air blower from a compressor making VERY sure that there is no MOISTURE in the air line specifically around the sound card and the CPU central processing unit dust causes static to build up in a computer
hope this helps

The built in speakers is not working and the volume is not on mute

Go to your control panel, click on "Hardware and Sound" and among the selections, choose "Manage Audio Devices" once you click it, a little window should pop up and would show the sound device on your computer usually the default is "Speakers/Headphones". It should show you a "check" on the device meaning it is enabled so that you should be able to hear sounds on your computer. if it doesnt show you a tick mark (usually) or if it shows you in "red color" it might be disabled and thats the reason why you dont hear anything on ur pc. if that's the case, simply "right click" the device and it will give you option to "enable" it. Choose enable, and make sure to click "OK" otherwise it wont take effect. try playing any audio on your pc again. If it did not resolve your issue, then maybe it must be some sound card issue which is another story.try doing this one first.

I have had that laptop once and had the same problem. I knew that it was the maximum volume of the speaker so I purchased external USB speakers to connect to the computer and the sound was clear and loud enough to hear anything played on the computer.

I have just set up my new Acer desktop and there is no sound. I do not have external speakers

Well, the first thing you either neet to get some speakers, or use an ear phone to determine if you are indeed hearing anything. Sometimes I notice my computer would show a red x over the volume indicating that there is a conflict.
I would suggest you try in the following order;
  1. Make sure the speakers cable is plugged into the "GREEN" outlet at the back
  2. Get some external speakers and test the sound
  3. Get some earphones if you cant get speakers
  4. Restart your computer
  5. If same,
  6. if your computer have pci audio card, take it out and reseat it. Make sure your computer is shut down of course.
  7. if it is onboard, you'll need to check and see in device manager if the audio card drivers is showing a problem and update it.
Hope one of the above combination of solutions help.
