Unknown devices usually have to do with a utility driver. Download all utility drivers for your machine at Acer's support site and this should take care of it. When you hit the right driver it will find and tell you exactly what the unknown device is.

Sorry , missed the no sound. I've had a few Acers come through my shop that we took out Vista and put in XP. I had to find the make and model of the sound card, and go to the manufacturer's site to get the sound drivers. Search driverguide.com for the sound driver. First search by the model of your machine, then, if you can't find it, search by the make and model of the sound card. If the unknown device is still there after you find the sound driver, then it may be some little feature that's use with Vista. If the machine works properly, don't worry about it.

Have you checked the sound setting? Make sure that they are set for the laptop speakers. If you've done this also, then I'm going to say that this is a hardware problem with the speakers. You might check the connections to see if they've worked loose.

Try downloading the drivers from the Acer WEB site. Make sure youselect the model of your laptop and the XP or Vista version of the drivers youthat require and it matches the Windows version that is installed on yourlaptop. Use this link to get to the Acer support: -

Acer Aspire 5920 crystal eye webcam is not working. Error: Camera not found.

Hi Friend, In this case i would recommend you to please check if you have the Camera listed under the imaging devices in Device manager.
To get into the device manager
1) If using XP as the Operating system Right click on "My Compuetr" icon, select properties and then select "Hardware" tab from the top and then select "Device manager" Check if you have the camera listed under the device manager
2) If using Vista/ Win 7 Click Start and in search box type "Device manager" and press Enter Check for the camera under the device manager

Aspire 4520- Windows 7: Webcam does not work properly

windows 7 has a compatibility program built in for addressing those issues from the previous operating system(XP)

go to start and in the search window
type in compatibility
this program will help you by running the program to test its functionality,
it will bring up a list of programs and ask you to select the program your having issues with,
then it will give your operating systems and service packs to test against,
at the end it will ask you if you want to save these settings.Y/N?

If the program runs ok then save the settings and it should continue to work from there.

Shut down and restart should embed these settings ,
Test again for function,
If no luck run the program again

You say that your system is dual booting, why?
windows 7 leaves XP for dust,
remove xp its taking up valuable space on your hard drive and possibly interfering with your systems operations,

Normally the hard drive will only allow one operating system on it,even if you have partions.
Fine tuning is all your looking for so let us know your outcome thanks

If you do a windows back up
which system is it going to back up?
normally it will write over the last backup you made and the new one replaces it,

Many times these drivers are manufacturer specific. Try the Acer website for postings of similar issues and the correct driver for the device/OS.

Ok.. This is the downloads site for ACER support site.
ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_4520/vista/Drivers
However there are two wireless LAN drivers in that directory. You should find out which one is yours. To do this click start->right-cllcik on computer. When the system window opens click on device manager located under tasks on the left hand side. When the device manager opens double-click on network adapters and one of the two devices(Atheros wireless LAN or Broadcom wireless LAN) will be listed. Download the respective driver and your wireless would be up and runnin'
