Your favourites you MUST make a back up copy.
The map updates are from garmin.
YOu can either buy 1 update or lifetime updates.
Or maybe its time to get a new GPS and sell the old one on ebay.
I tend to keep mine for 2-3 years then sell them and buy the latest one.

An address appeared on my gps, however, it is an address I don't recognize and never entered.\r\nHow would this happen?

If you were browsing the map on the satnav it's possible that you pressed the screen at that point which would give the option of saving it to the favourites folder. If you then pressed SAVE it would save to favourites.

Another possibility is that when you were driving the car you pressed the car icon, which shows your location. This can automatically save the location to favourites if the car was moving or if you were stopped it would ask you if you wanted to save it.

How often should you update or is it more practicle to just purchase a new garmin every couple years?

If you're happy with the satnav you have it's cheaper to update. You have the option of buying a once off map update or a lifetime update. That is for the lifetime of the satnav not your life. With a lifetime update, which costs around 120 euros, you get 4 updates each year. This is the cheapest option. However the only problem with this method is that the maps get bigger each time you update and the space on your satnav stays the same. I started off with a full map of Europe and now I'm only able to store Western Europe on my garmin nuvi 760. You can use memory cards to hold some of the map but older garmin satnavs have a problem recognising the maps on memory cards. If you need the full map you might be better buying a new satnav every few years. If you only use part of the map a lifetime update might be the best option.

If you decide to go for a new satnav I would suggest that you go for one with the biggest storage space possible and then get a lifetime update or get a model that comes with lifetime updates like the 3790LMT. You can judge the storage size by the amount of maps it comes with. The 3790 model has the complete USA + Canada and Mexico or the 2370LT comes with maps of Europe and USA, lifetime traffic updates but not lifetime maps.

How to add a n address to favorites??

  1. Go to the screen that says WHERE TO and VIEW MAP
  2. Press WHERE TO and enter the address.
  3. Instead of pressing GO look at the bottom of the screen and you'll see a button that says SAVE
  4. Press SAVE and it will be saved to your favourites. You'll then get an option to give it a name. Type in something that you'll recognise again.
Alternatively if you drive to a location and you want to save it to favourites you can press the car icon which shows your location on the map and it will give you an option to save it.

Occasionally when you save a location the satnav gives it a default name. You can change this by going to Favourites.
  1. Press the name of the place saved
  2. Instead of pressing GO look at the bottom of the screen and you'll see an option to EDIT.
  3. Select EDIT and you can change the name to something you'll recognise.

How do i add an address to favorites?

When you press WHERE TO and enter an address you want to go to instead of pressing GO press SAVE, on the bottom of the screen. The location will then be saved in favourites and you will get an option to name it. Also when you're driving if you come to a location you want to save press the car on the map screen. You will be asked "Do you want to save your current location" Press YES and it will be saved to favourites.

My Tom Tom is two years old and I was told that I should upgrade the maps each year. How do I go about doing that?

The Tomtom map updates are available by subscription from www.Tomtom.com Under most conditions it is not really necessary to update every year. The updates run about $40 per year. The best option on most of the small GPS units under $100 is to use it for 2-3 years and then just sell the older one and buy a new unit. The reason I say this is because the map updates only update the maps not the features or the software. The newer units will have new features and options for the same price as you would get with buying a map update your the older unit.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

Garmin nuvi 750 won't say street names after upgrade to 2009 maps

User's manual available at www.garmin.com. Select "support", then "Manuals". Enter "mobile electronics"+"automotive"+"model #". Manual says that selecting a language with a person's name will speak street names.

I used my garmin nuvi 760 for the first time this evening and received terrible navigation as well as a lot a static. I was listening to the instructions over 88.1 FM on the car radio. Any suggestions for...

Try testing out a few other stations to see if that makes a difference. for the navigation part, you want to be sure you have the 2009 map update for one. Also under "avoidances" there could be a few options checked in there that would mess with your navigation ex: avoid highways, u-turns, interstates, etc

Garmin 760 not in English

Hi, from the "Where To" / "View Map" screen, select the tools (spanner icon), then Settings (spanner icon again) then Language (Mouth icon).
There should be 3 options, the lower left is the Keyboard; select this then scroll to British English. The upper icon is the Voice, choose a suitable one (if it says (TTS) it will read out street names as ir gives directions), the top-right option is Text, again choose British English.

I cant get some addresses on my garmi

I am not sure if there is an upgrade CD or not. I looked briefly around on google but was unable to find one. That doesn't mean there isn't one, though. But, I do know that if they are pretty new places, they most likely will not show up anyway. I know a neighborhood that was built about 3 years ago (still not finished though) and still none of the streets or anything show up on map quest, google maps, or on any GPS's.
