I have a TEAC Stereo

posted by labcerb on Jul 23, 2008

I have a TEAC Stereo DC-D2831.

The power button stays in the "on" position.

The CD deck drops down after loading cds to play. Can't get them out, or even turn them around to play others.

Pulling the electric cord did not work - the power button is still stuck in the on position.

No, it didn't work. I did manage to get the front cover off, but the inside is all circuit boards and wires.

There is no way that I can get to the power button at all.

This particular stereo is obsolete, so finding a repair man may be hard to do. If you can find one, it may cost you more than what it's worth to have it fixed, especially since this machine sold for less than $100 new. It might be time for a new stereo.

2 possible reasons:

the switch contact may have some corrosion that the switch is left ON, if you can open the front end of the stereo, try to clean up the contact using a common eraser

if the switch uses a spring to engage and disengage the contact, the spring may be broken and needs replacement, or a part of the button lock is stuck, TLC may work for it too.

good luck

labcerb, good job to get the cover off, since you see all circuit boards, that would mean your power button is not mechanicalso just try to check the contact (like the controller of a ps2) and clean it up with some lighter fluid (since it quickly dries up, then gently rub the surface of the board where the contact hits with a regular pencil eraser.

good luck
