Mine is a 7 -8 year old separate Freezer with an "Electronic Ice Maker inside. It seems to overfill with water a small amount which overtime freezes all the cubes in the storage bin. Is there a way to adjust the amount of water per cycle?

Upon looking it appears that the only thing in the front of the ice maker is the electric motor

  • foxgroup3 Feb 11, 2011

I assume you are talking about the icemaker motor which is working to make cubes properly. The problem is that there is too much water loaded into the tray

  • foxgroup3 Feb 11, 2011

I took out the icemaker to look for a n arm

None, this water cycle is controlled exclusively by the "mother-board/main-board in the lower rear area of the unit, the only other possibility would be is if the water solenoid valve isn't completely shutting off and letting water enter after a timed fill per the motherboards circuit timer or you are using the wrong ice cube tray(s) that may be of too small capacity, the boards new number is WR55X10942 made by G.E.Corp

Hi, if your water is overfilling then you probably need a faceplate for your icemaker. If you remove the cover on your icemaker(pry on the corners and pull at same time) You will see a screw with a spring on it. That adjust the water flow. If you tighten you decrease the water. Make sure the gears are not corrioded. If it is. Replace the plate with the gears on it.

If that be the case, check if the motor is working..

Check out the level arm and make sure it is operating correctly. There should be a limit switch that it bumps into when the tray is full, double check to make sure this is functioning correctly.

Temperature alarm light is on and a small amount of water is noted on the floor at the bottom of the freezer. Ice cream is a little soft.

The defrost element has failed, ice buildup will be noted at the inside rear of unit lower. Replace defrost element (service tech required). fixed and many years trouble free, very common.

Franklin chef ice maker fim70 finished running cleaning cycle. have cleaned plugs, lines, on rear and sprayer inside bin. water continues to run, ice forms on top (w/ frost). Ice never drops.

Hello

Ice may jam up in an ice dam and close off the chute. Shove the ice scoop up into the chute with a fair amount of force to break up the ice dam. Chunks of ice should fall into the bin, followed by a shower of ice cubes.

Ice maker tray over flows and clumps ice, water freezes in drain at bottom and water will come out of the front of freezer door. this does not occur all the time just when it gets a hankerin too. could it...

Good day,
The normal operation is for the ice maker to harvest a batch of cubes, and then just before competing it's cycle, to open the valve to add more water for 7 seconds then shut off smartly.

At least 50% of water valve problems cause an overfill problem, because of internal wear etc. that does not let the valve close on time. This causes an overflow problem to the ice maker, and all the problems you described.

It should be corrected as soon as possible, since they have been known to throttle open and never close. Should it be overnight or while away, the damage can become quite serious.

Ice maker water leak in freezer. 8 yr old Amana std freezer on top, water actively leaking from ice maker into bin. Is it worth repairing?

Probably the solenoid (electric valve that opens and let the water from the supply line go into ice maker when It calls for it) is leaking and needs to be replaced ,it's not an expensive job. To make sure this is the problem ,shut of the ice maker by putting up the lever and wait a few hours and look inside the ice maker , if is water inside ,that's the problem ,if not the ice maker is the problem and has to be fix or replaced ; but is better to replace it ,won't be a big diference in cost.

Ice maker is overflowing

Older icemakers have a bar that drops from above your ice bin; once the bin is full the bar is raised and trips turning the ice maker off so that it won't dump. If your's is this style, try manually pushing the free end of the bar upward so that it locks in the upward position. Newer ice makers with the ice bin in the door have a small panel that moves to the open position when the door opens and closes when the door closes. Mine also includes an optical sensor that is visible when this panel is in the closed position. Try placing a non-clear tape over the optical sensor (don't know if that will work or not but worth a shot). If effective in stopping the ice flow then call a repairman. If none of this works, turn off the water supply coming out of the wall to your freezer.

Leaking ice maker

If it overfills and drips, look for an adjustment behind the plastic endcover with a +/- on it. - is less water.

If it continuously drips, replace the water inlet valve on the back where the house water supply comes in.
The water inlet valve on the back of unit opens when the ice maker needs water. If the valve doesn't seal good because of sediment or wear it will continue to drip and when the water reaches the ice maker supply tube it will freeze diverting the water. You can take the water line off the valve and watch to see if it drips.

Ice maker seems to be dripping water onto ice in ice container

If it overfills and drips, look for an adjustment behind the plastic endcover with a +/- on it. - is less water.

If it continuously drips, replace the water inlet valve on the back where the house water supply comes in.

Watch it when it fills with water. The fill tube could also be stopped up with ice. The water inlet valve on the back of unit opens when the ice maker needs water. If the valve doesn't seal good because of sediment or wear it will continue to drip and when the water reaches the ice maker supply tube it will freeze. You can take the water line off the valve and watch to see if it drips.
