How to change burrs - La Pavoni Jolly (PA-JL) Electric Burr Grinder

Safety Tip: To prevent any potential mishaps, ensure sure your grinder is fully off and unplugged before using it. Also, if you haven't used it in a while, make sure it's cool to the touch.
Let the Bean Hopper open. Take off the bean hopper from your grinder's top. This is going to reveal the top burr.
Take the Upper Burr Carrier Off: An upper burr carrier is usually used to hold the top burr in place. It is necessary to take out the upper burr carrier. Depending on the kind of your grinder, the precise procedure may change, but generally speaking, it entails undoing a few screws or tabs that secure it. In general, follow these steps:
a. Check the upper burr carrier for any visible screws or tabs. Usually, they're close to the edges.
b. To release the tabs or loosen the screws, use the proper equipment (usually a screwdriver). To prevent breaking the grinder, use gentleness.
c. After the upper burr carrier is released from its locking mechanism, carefully pull or slide it out.
Lift Out the Top Burr: The top burr can now be removed after the upper burr carrier has been taken out. The burr might be secured in place by tiny clips or notches, so proceed with caution and gentleness.
Clean and Maintain: After removing the top burr, you can give the grinder and its parts a thorough cleaning. Make sure you adhere to the cleaning and maintenance guidelines provided by the manufacturer. This often entails cleaning the grinder's parts, brushing off coffee grinds, and correctly reassembling it.
Reassemble: Carefully put the grinder's parts back together in the opposite order after cleaning. Verify that the upper burr carrier is correctly positioned and that all screws and tabs are firmly in place.
Plug in and Test: After the grinder has been put back together, plug it in and make sure it is operating properly.

Check for burrs. Even the tiniest burr can break thread. Check the needle throat plate, the bobbin area...

Get out your magnifying glass and really inspect it. If you find a burr... carefully smooth it down with some very fine (1200 grit) sand paper.

There are a few reasons the top thread may break.
- Check the needle plate for damage around the needle hole. Polish any burrs with fine sand paper or a needle file.
Check the hook for damage. If the hook is damaged it can cause the thread to break as it comes off the tip. Be very careful if you must remove burrs from the hook. Changing the shape of the hook tip will cause skipping problems.
Check that the top tension is not too high. The top tension should be set at a medium number

if it is everything in order you change the grind buy rolling the plastic container of coffee beans(container commands to upper burr holder. If it doesn't go easy than disassemble container and unscrew the upper burr holder, carefully when it comes out, you have some pins and springs from below. do not loose or displace them.

Start by closing the hopper and grinding all the beans through the unit. Remove the hopper and look for any lock screws on the top of the adjustment collar (or ring). Remove the screws if present and turn the adjustment collar clock-wise (coarser) until it comes off. Pull out the upper burr holder. You then need to take out the three screws that hold on each burr (blades) and remove them. Then you want to use a shop vac to clean out all of the grounds. Make sure there is no coffee on the burr holders that could cause the new burrs to not be level. Assemble the new burrs on to the holders. Take a dry towel and clean the threads of the collar and the threads inside the mill. You don't want any coffee grounds on the threads, that could cause the adjustment collar to lock up and may damage the threads which can be extremely expensive. Use a small amount of lithium grease on the threads and reassemble. Screw the adjustment collar all the way down to where the burrs are touching. Then back it up 1.5 numbers (12-14 little bumps on the outer edge of the collar). This is a good "starting point". Pull some shots and adjust as needed.

Remove the screws on the knob with the grind setting, that pulls out and gives you access to the burrs.

This is a set screw. You need to take this out.
You can access this to either clean the burr
grinding wheel. Maybe this needs changed.

just you need to continue opening 2 part more than in 5 min and 40 sec, there you go further than the video shows.

Several possibilities loom:

1. Same burrs for 25 years? don't be cheap replace them!

2. Dirt in the threads of the burr carrier, or the threads that recieve it?

I'm thinking that there is something in the burr in the unit. Empty the unit and remove the burr. Usually, this is done with a counterclockwise turn. Note how hard it may be to turn...you'll have to reverse this when you put it together. Now, clean out any coffee debris you find. Then, turn the unit over and tap it on a firm surface covered with newspaper. Reassemble and return to service.
