Fridgidaire upright freezer alarm FFU2065FW

Power failure occured while on vacation, the unit will not power up the compressor. Power is on and switches light up but the temp setting switch does not light up. This is a Frigidare upright unit model FFU2065DW and just went out of warranty last month. Is this a thermostat failure and is there a way to check the themostat? If not were do I go from here.

My mother had the same problem after a power outage. I took a look at it and the back wall behind the lowest 2 shelves was very icy. I suspected that the coils had frozen up. She had already removed all the food so I had her unplug it for a couple of hours with the door open to allow it to thaw anything that was frozen and when she plugged it back up it started to work correctly.

If the compressor is not running but you do have power to the refrigerator, there may be a problem with one of these:

The compressor,The Thermostat,The overload, relay, or capacitor,The defrost timer,The condenser fan motor.
Try to troubleshoot each of these componet one after the other using eliminating method.
That may solve your problem.

My Fridgidaire upright Gallery freezer is freezing my food but the appliance seems to be constantly running and the temperature control on the outside is reading 29 Celsius when it obviously isn't

Hi Susan Abboud - Modern freezers have increased storage capacity and keep more even temperature that may require the compressors to run longer but use less energy. Was the unit disconnected previously for any reason? If so, freezer requires a minimum of 4 hours to cold down completely. Confirm that the temperature control is not set too cold and that the door is not being open frequently. A dirty, cracked, worn or poorly fitted door gasket can allow warm air to enter the unit causing it to have to run longer to remove the warm air. Leaks in the door seal will cause freezer to run longer in order to maintain desired temperature. Cleaned the gasket, if it is too damage then it will need to be replace. You can check and see if the door seal is bad by, placing a dollar between the gasket and cabinet. Check to see if the door is being blocked by anything stopping it from closing properly. If nothing is stopping the door then replace gasket. Keep in mind that there should also be at least 4-6 in of air space on all sides of the unit. If freezer is built in or has items stored on top that cover the unit, the can cause long run times, high temperature in the freezer and premature failure to the unit. Do not block the toe grille on the lower front of the unit. Sufficient air circulation is essential for the properly operation of your freezer, about 3 inches around the unit.

check the evaporator and see if there is frost build up, also check the power to the compressor you may need to replace the overload and starter relays.if you can check the current draw on the compressor it should be 1.2 to 1.6 amps if it is not then you may need to replace the compressor.you may also need to replace the electronic control if eequipped

Upright freezer hot to the touch on the sides.

inspect the unit for a fan near the compressor not to be alarmed some do not have a fan if so insure that it is running while the compressor is running also some defrost problems will cause this the unit runs for a long time heating the compressor and by way passing the heat along

Can't get alarm to turn off while temperature stabilizes

My wife solved it for me :-) You turn the alarm off with a switch at the bottom. The alarm turns off, but the light stays red for another 4 hours. After that the red light goes off too, and you can turn the switch back on without the alarm going off, if the freezer is back to operating temp.

Won't freeze

Is the compressor running the whole time? If so may have a problem with a refridgerant leak....check the compressor in the rear of unit, feel if its hot....may be as simple as a relay.

Freezer compressor runs steady & getting -30F

You probably have a defective thermostat or sensor for reading the temperature.

Kenmore freezer quit working after power outage

simple stuff, you have a compressor a stat and power. check the receptacle to be sure you have 120 volts . then check the compressor with stat at max cold setting to see if you have 120 volts at compressor. if you do then compresssor is bad =new compressor or new unit. if no power to compressor then stat is bad= new stat. i always recomend new unit cause new stat or compressor wont fix a freon leak.... i have replaced a few compressors that died soon after due to a freon leak. good luck...
