Hi. Is the HDD drawing too much power from the receiver (does it have its own power supply)?

You could look at the troubleshooting guide in the user manual here:

Sometimes only one channel plays when playing CDs or DVDs. Jiggling the input knob will at times cause both channels to operate. This unit is a Yamaha RX-770 that I bought new. Thanks!

It sounds like you know what the problem is. Get it fixed.

Or try this temporary fix.

Or turn it off and manually operate the selector and all controls a thousand times to wipe the apparent oxides from their contacts.

We have a panasonic rx d15, not used it for a while. Put a cd in, but shows as no cd.... won't play. Any ideas please. Have tried different cds, but still show as no cd.

If it has been a while the laser lens is probably dirty and needs cleaning, you can buy a disc cleaning kit and load it in the machine. The other option is to dis-assemble the unit and use a Q-Tip and rubbing alcohol being careful to clean it gently. If this fails a new assembly will be needed but this would not be cost effective.

Can you plug an mp3 or ipod into the RX-DX1 panasonic radio?

Anything that has a headphone output can be adapted to feed an RCA cable pair for standard stereo to any audio device with a standard RCA input. Get a cable like the one described here:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10218&cs_id=1021804&p_id=665&seq=1&format=2

and connect it into any available analog input EXCEPT "Phono". Turn the MP3 player volume up.

Won't read mp3 and wma cds

The discs were not "finalized" or "closed" - place the cd's back on your computer cd-rom drive and search the help file of your CD burning software and search for "closing disc" or "finalizing disc." Some programs will allow you to close or finalize after you have already burned them, but others (Sony SoundForge is one exmaple) will not allow it - you may have to re-burn the discs and select the option that says "close disc after finishing" (this option is usually left unchecked by default, because closing or finalizing a disc prevents you from adding any new information to the disc).

Music will not play

I managed to get this sorted by changing the default setting in windows media player from ripping the CDs as a wma protected file to a mp3 file.
