One line on the fan goes to the house common and should be white. this one is separate from the new switch. The other 3 lines on the fan are the 3 speeds. "L" is for the hot line coming into the fan and should be BLACK or RED. It should also be in the same box connector as the white above. 1,2 and 3 are the 3 fan speeds and tie to the 3 leads on the fan. Try 1=purple 2= blue 3=yellow You may need to move them after testing but darkest to lightest is usually the 1,2,3 order. Please let me know how much this has helped. Thank you! Roger
A neutral safety switch could very possibly be the problem. It could also be as simple as the gear shift linkage. Over time, the gear shift will develop some "play" and eventually won't line up with P,R,N,D,1,2 . To test this, hold the gear shift all the way to the left when trying to start the car. If it starts then you've identified the problem and need the linkage adjusted. If not, investigating the neutral safety switch would be a good idea.
there is a plastic gear on the bottom side of the steering column you can turn till it lines up, but usually the holder breaks and you have to replace it , the wheel is black and the bracket is white
