Wired network problem

First of all are you sure your Internet card is working? there should be 2 lights at the back of your CPU in the Internet port when you connect the RJ45 or Internet cable they suppose to blink to show they receive and sending data. Are you sure you the RJ45 cables are at their right places? you can always identify them by their colors. If you think every is ok with your connection and your modem is sending Internet signal you can always buy an Internet adapter (USB) to resolve your problem.

I have a (like) phone chord and can't find where to put the other end. We have it plugged into the back of the router, need to know where to plug the other end.

Hi

It depends on which country you are in.

It depends what Broadband wiring setup you have.

It depends which type of cable you are talking about (see images 1 and 2 below)

In some countries, the RJ11 to RJ11 cable goes from this device into the phone Socket of an ADSL filter. One RJ45 to RJ45 cable goes from the Router into the Ethernet Socket of the ADSL Filter. Another RJ45 to RJ45 cable goes from the Router to the Computer. The ADSL Filter then goes into the Phone socket in the wall.

You need an ADSL Filter in every Phone Socket that has a telecommunications device attached to it (Fax Machines, Answering Machines, TV Set Top Boxes, games Consoles etc.). The ADSL filter separates Telehone, Voice & Fax Data traffic from Broadband traffic and allows all to share the same phone line with out conflict.

See Network Diagram below.

In some countiries or wiring setups, the RJ45 to RJ45 cable form the Router to the Wall does not need to go via the Phone Socket and can go directly into its own dedicated Ethernet Wall Socket.

Just had cable Internet installed and have had problems with it disconnecting every night at the same time, SB5101N Motorola. I have a wireless router, Belkin F5D8236-4, and was previously hooked up to my...

As long as your laptop doesn't have a firewall enabled then you should almost always be able to get connected by directly connecting your unit to the router.

Here is how to Determine if you Windows Firewall is enabled
Once it is disabled try resetting your Belkin back to Factory default Settings.
If all that still doesn't work I would attempt attaching it to the modem, and know once and for all if you router is working correctly.

Hope this help, and if it did please remember to leave Feedback/Testimonial. Thanks.

WHERE TO PUT THE WIRES ONE IS A DATA CABLE TH OTHER IS A ETHERNET CABLE?

I dont understand the question. Usually connections are very self explanatory because sizes of plugins are unique.
An ethernet cable has an rj45 connector and can only plugin to an rj45 connector.
Usb have 4 or 5 type connectors but they are unique to them also.
Personally I never use the USB connector cable though sometimes you may have to if the modem or router doesnt seem to work with the ethernet cable.
Lay people that have no idea how all this modem router stuff works should probably follow the directions for setup using the USB cable.

Install ethernet card optiplex gx260

That slot is actuall not accessable externaly. The open bay is for the AGP slot right next to it. Directly to the left of that slot you have a riser board the provides 2 additional horzontally mounted pci slots. You'll have to use one of these.

Belkin wireless router not assigning IPs for wireless clients

Some routers start handing out DHCP wireless IP's at 192.168.2.100. Try setting the upper limit at .110. If the router is found in a site survey (view wireless networks) but cannot connect, the limitation would be why.

Can i connet my cable network from my p.c to my new macbook

If you have two Rj45's in your PC you can. Cable is connected to your cable modem. Than another cable called a Rj45 (Looks link a over sized telephone jack), connects from the modem to your PC. The simplest & cheepest way would be to buy a splitter for the Rj45 cable. (A lot less money than buying a second network card. Take a look at the link.(Click it once).

You will also need another Rj45 cable to go to your macbook.

And lastly, if you want to be able to sit any where in your home & still maintain an internet connection you can buy a wireless router. If your mac has a built in wireless network card.
This is pretty cheep compaired to other wireless routers around.
