I've had my Sharp Aquos LC20E1U for a number of years. A couple of times recently it just shut off on its own. It started OK again the following day. However, last time this happened, it wouldn't even power on. I've disconnected it from cable and tried it in other sockets but nothing happens -- the power light doesn't even blink. Someone has tested the power supply for me with a multimeter and that seems to be alright. Is there a reset combination for this TV? Like holding down the Power button on the top of the set or something. I just want to make sure there's not a glimmer of hope for this TV before dumping it.

Service menu procedure text changed by midge to work with Sharp LC-32P70E & probably the same for similar models.

There are probably ways of really messing up your set if you do the wrong thing from the service menus, so do this at your own risk:

To enter service menu, make sure the set is plugged in but turned off at the power button on the top of the tv,
then while holding both input button and volume down button, push the power button. Within about 5 seconds, the set will power up keep holding the input and volume down buttons until a small "K" appears in a box on the left side of the screen. Then press and hold the channel down and vol down buttons at the same time to enter the service menu.

Once the service menu is displayed on the screen, you can get the screen to display different levels of solid grey by pressing the number keys on your remote. i.e. press "1" to get a relatively dark grey, 2 for a lighter grey, and so on up to 6 which is a bright white screen; 7, 8, and 9 don't appear to do anything. (this was for adjusting grey levels, other settings are available too) Press any number a second time to return to the service menu...

Not sure wether the grey background settings apply, but for entering the service menu it does.

I think to get out of service mode you have to disconnect the TV from the mains and wait about 30 seconds.

it's some time since I used the service menu on the Sharp Aquos but I do remember you can do a full reset to factory settings as well as turn on, off and reset certain system settings too you will just have to experiment with the remote keys, I think the colour fastext key access different menu levels etc but as I said I am unsure, at least this procedure will get you there so you can try for yourself.

Hope this helps

Please come back to let me know if the service menu procedure works for you.

Good Luck

Midge.

I have a sharp aquos model Sharp Aquos LC-20B2U 20 in. LCD Television . it works great for about 2 years, then suddenly shut down by itself. then it turns on again for a variable time, then once again...

if your TV lights the indicator when you power it on,, your problem is your back light is busted you can replace that and when the indicator not lights the problem is your power supply you can fix it by finding defective parts by using multimeter usually the trouble that i encounter to power supply is open/change value of resistor leak capacitor and shorted diode and transistor such as regulator you're always welcome

Cannot tune all digital cahnnels on Sharp aquos

Start by doing a factory settings/ defaults on the Sharp rather than a normal automatic retune. This should then be ok. You need to empty the existing presets first so it will find the new type of signal BBC is now using.
If still not working for BBC1 +2 then look at whether you have too much aerial signal strength. (ie a booster/splitter that you could bypass)

Sharp remote control not working

Ok, looks like this TV works on MS Windows. Anyone who has had a computer 5 years back knows that when Windows has a problem, there is only one sure-shot solution.

SHUT IT DOWN, START IT UP !

Try this with your TV. Completely unplug it and leave for one minute. Start again. Voila ! Remote works flawlessly.

Tv shutting off

How many times per second does the POWER led blink? (dont worry about the OPC).

1x per second (constant, steady blink) = bad inverter/lamps
2x per second = bad power supply
3x per second = bad main board

You can buy the parts online and fix if yourself!!
