How to hook up the battery to Best Power UPS Model ME1.4kVA ? I have an used Best Power UPS Model ME1.4kVA without battery. I opened the case and find three wires as below: A. one each short #2 wire goes to fuse with (+) maker .. I assume it should be connected to Positive (+) of the battery. B: two each about 12 inch long #4 wires.. one connect to a board terminal E4 ; another one connected to other PC board terminal E17. I assume these two wires will be connected to the Negative (-) post on the battery. Would you or somebody please confirm this. user "Nobudgetprod" on July-13-2010 having a same model I wonder "Nobudgetprod" could help to verify this by open his UPS and look at his. Thanks

I just talked to Eaton - Best support.. Yes the :A. one each short #2 wire goes to fuse with ( ) maker .. I assume it should be connected to Positive ( ) of the battery. B: two each about 12 inch long #4 wires.. one connect to a board terminal E4 ; another one connected to other PC board terminal E17. I assume these two wires will be connected to the Negative (-) post on the battery.
that is correct.. The problem is solved.

You are correct the Positive (+) is the fuse and the other two (orange in my unit) wires both go to the negative (-). Also your battery should be at least 12V 75AH dry cell with a holding voltage of 14V when charged, a standard battery will not work, the unit will boil it dry. This will give a 5 min run time at 75% load (115V 9A continuous).

I changed the units configuration to use a 12V 750AH wet cell by changing its holding voltage to 13V, adjustable on the charging board (the outer most board when the cover is off that is). By doing this the battery costs about $75 not $140 and I get a run time of 4 hours 30 min. at 75% load. My entire office is floating on this unit. Also this unit will require a house current voltage of 105V-125V on a 15A breaker. Yes house current varies all the time by +-10 volts. and unit will use about 10A when running at 75% and charging. The normal output at full load for this unit: 115V 11A. continuous, ( the computers in my office pull 7A to 9A when they are in use, idling at 4A when not in use. So when the power fails I just keep working.

Another thing to note with the new configuration for a wet cell battery, monitoring software will initially show a low run time of 3 to 5 min., but after the unit runs for about a minute on battery the software will adjust to the real run time. So set low battery shutdown for about 2min and the software will work fine.

Ok a little background about the 1.4KVA Battery Backup from Best Power Tech. When I purchased this unit some time ago, it carried a double lifetime warranty good up to $250,000. Not bad for a $2,000 unit. What that meant was not only would the equipment protected by the unit survive a hit, but the unit will also. So far this unit has handled 17 blackouts, over 40,000 line spikes (Voltage greater than 125) and over 3,000 brownouts (Voltage less than 105) and maintained a constant 115 Volt output. (Sub note here the unit beeps while a brownout is in progress, because the battery is being used to help maintain Voltage.) Also this is the same model used at the Kitt Peak Observatory in Arizona. I was encouraged to call and talk to them about the unit, very impressive track record!

it is on the PC board closest to the outside of the unit and on the leftmost side of that board just under the small transformer and next to a capacitor, on my board it is red with a white center. check the voltage across newly installed and charged battery as you turn this control clockwise, it will start at 14V and the charging light for the unit will go out just as you reach 13V.

In my home using 100AH battery for inverter , want to know wht happens if the baterry is not connected to inverter ? Is battery life decreases..? or WHAT ELSE WILL HAPPENS TO BATTERY ..? plz give an...

It depends upon the type of UPS.

A true UPS requires a battery to be connected to the inverter at all times. Mains power is used to charge the battery constantly and battery is required to continually supply power to the inverter which then converts the voltage to mains supply voltage.

A lower powered and cheaper type UPS areswitch-over types, when the mains supply fails, the UPS switches over to thebatteries and the inverter in milli-seconds which then supplies mains power to thecomputer and peripherals.
This type UPS may operate without a battery, but it depends upon the design of the UPS and the battery error detection system In most cases I doubt it can operate without a battery. You can try the UPS without a battery, make sure the battery terminals do not short against each other.

Three out of the five plugs do not work have stopped working.

The APC UPS will power the non-battery (label something like surge only) with the power button turned off. If the outlets that are not powering up are labeled Battery/Surge, you need to turn on the UPS. There should be a button you depress to turn the system on.

Also if this is a new UPS, you will need to hook up the battery for this to work. Open the bottom of the unit and you will find the battery and plugs.

Ups gave long continuous sound

Hi there,

A couple of things, first, are there any high-load devices plugged into the battery backup side of the unit? (Microwave, laser printer, and so on.) If so, there's your problem :). These devices cause a BIG load on your power system and need to be on the "surge protection only" side of the unit or plugged in to another surge suppressor.

If that isn't the case, it sounds like the UPS battery is bad. Here's something to try:

1. Shut the UPS off when this happens.
2. Take ALL load of of the "battery backup" plugs by unplugging them.
3. Start the UPS.
4. After the short self-test (the light blink and a few clicks are heard, in most cases), you should see a green light.
5. Plug in the loads that you unplugged from the battery backup side one at a time.
6. As you plug each one in, leave the ups turned on, but yank the power cord from the wall (unplug the ups from the wall while powered on and plugged in with a device drawing backup power from the unit)
7. Then, if the alarm goes off, you've confirmed that the battery can't take the load. So, it'll need to be replaced.

You can obtain ups batteries just about anywhere. (e.g www.planetbattery.com) All you need is the model number off of the battery and you can order a new cartridge. Make SURE the battery looks like and has the same voltage as the bad one to be sure your new one will function properly. Your manual should cover opening the battery door and replacing the battery.

Stop Beeping

I think it is beeping due to it being slightly overloaded? What are you trying to power? This is a very light unit, it will only supply a couple of Amps at best... It is only 340 Watts, PEAK... continuous draw is at least only 3/4 of that say, 250 Watts. with around half being best. It can also be battery Power is low, or not enough.

Battery Backup/Surge Protector Question

Considering the low draw of power you intend for the UPS it will work well. I have two monitors on a strip plugged into UPS along with desktop, routers and modems, UPS handles all well, it's just shortens battery backup times. Have had to power down from outages several times without any probs.

APC Backup UPS Model # BK200C salvageable?

Yes, but the battery may not be any good, though, and trying to charge it may damage the charger. A new battery is about $20. The surge suppressor will still work without the battery as long as it is connected to a properly grounded 3-wire circuit. If you decide to take a chance and charge the old battery, take precautions like keeping a watch on it should it explode or catch fire. Not trying to scare you, just looking at worst case scenario.

Back UPS Model # BK200C salvageable?

Yes you right you can just use it as surge protector, but it would be better if you gonna buy a battery for that unit aleast you got a back up in the event of power outage.

Hi, can I operate the A 70 on mains power without a battery

Your battery will not charge until it reaches a lower limit of charge.
Whilst in the Laptop and using mains power your battery acts like a UPS and is available soon as you lose power.
The battery life will not be degraded or improved, removing it whilst plugged into mains.
When using Laptop om=n mains the battery is always there in case you lose power or somehow the lead gets pulled out inadvertantly, so you will not lose work.
I use a laptop all the time for work just got a new Latitude D630. The battery in my old lappy is still good for 2hrs+ and never been removed.
80% of its life was on mains.
Hope this helps.
