I am going to suggest contacting Steamist since they are the experts in this product.
http://www.steamist.com/contact.htm
My understanding is Steamist has 5 year parts warranty, and 3 year labor warranty, which is good warranty.
The
contact e-mails includes 'literature' so you can order a manual,
'troubleshoot' so can get directions from the folks who make the
product, and email for sales manager.
I would also inquire about
authorized service center, and ask what is likelihood of getting
long-term repair vrs buying another unit.

Also take advantage of fixya phone service.
For a price, expert speaks with you over phone while you work on any do-it-yourself project.
Fixya is always less expensive than a service call.
