The PXE ROM is part of your system's network interface controller. It is being entered on your system's startup to look for a bootable image on a physical network connection and if found, to boot from that image. If there is no network cable connection to your system or if there is but no bootable device is found on that connection, the result is the error message that you got. As to why your system is entering the PXE ROM can be explained by looking at your system's Setup Utility,,,

Press F2 while powering up to enter the Setup Utility and use the cursor control keys to go to the Boot tab which then shows the Boot priority order. The default order is as follows...
1. IDE0
2. IDE1
3. USB FDD
4. USB HDD
5. Network Boot : LEGACY PCI DEVICE
6. USB CDROM
Your system's internal hard disk drive should be listed beside IDE0 and it will be accessed first to look for a boot record. If the drive fails to boot, the next devices in the list will be accessed accordingly until either a bootable device is found or the last item which is USB CDROM. If a USB CDROM is plugged in on one of the system's USB ports, it will be checked for a bootable record and if not found or no CDROM is plugged in, then the system displays the last part of the message -- insert boot disk and press any key.

Press F12 while powering up enters the Boot Menu which has the Boot Option Menu. This menu should show by default the following...
1. IDE 0: (the name/type information for your system's internal hard disk drive
2. Network Boot: LEGACY PCI DEVICE

If there is no hard disk drive information shown beside IDE 0, then the possibilities are that
1. there is no internal hard drive present
2. there is a hard drive but it has failed
If there is hard disk drive information and pressing enter to select it does not result in an operating system startup, then the drive's startup partition has been wiped and so it has no bootable image.

If there seems to be an internal hard drive present but it has no bootable image, you may attempt recovery from the installation images in the hidden partition. The recovery allows restoration of...
1. operating system to factory defaults
2. applications (selectable)
3. drivers (selectable)

Press Alt and F10 keys together while powering up and the Acer logo is showing to enter Acer's eRecovery Management. Follow the instructions to do the recovery.

there seems to be an internal hard drive present (IDE 0: Hitachi HTS545016B9A300) but it has no bootable image, I have attempted recovery from the installation images in the hidden partition but won't work. I try to press Alt and F10 keys together while powering up and the Acer logo is showing and never makes it to Acer's eRecovery Management.

Acer aspire one check cable connection pxe-m0f: Exiting intel PXE Rom. no bootable device

How old is this machine? Have you ever opened the chassis and blown out the dust with compressed air?
Built-up dust can cause electronic components to fail due to the loss of ability to dissipate heat properly.

Hi,

I hope that you have the DVD Recovery Disks because your operating system is malfunctioning.

If you have the disks, you'll have to use an external CD/DVD Player.

In the alternative, you'll have to install XP/Vista/7. Please connect me if you need detailed instructions.

Pxe-m0f : Exiting intel pxe rom

First - re-seat the harddisk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot andgo into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If itdoesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty. Then the hard drive needsto be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer orlaptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioningcomputer/laptop again.

Every time I turn on my computer the following message appears: "For PCIE Atheros Ethernet controller v1.0.0.5 Check cable connection ..! pxe-e63: error while initializing the NIC pxe-mof:...

It sounds like the hard disk is faulty, the machine is trying to boot via the network card as it cannot find a bootable disk. You could try removing the hard drive and reseating it but the disk could be dead.

My computer fell and when I turned it back on it's saying check cable connection..! PXE-E63: Error while initializing the NIC pxe-m0f:Exiting Intel pxe rom no bootable device

Usually, your computer tries to "boot" from multiple sources:

1. 3.5" diskette drive, if installed, functional, and a boot-diskette is inserted
2. CD-ROM drive, if installed, functional, and a boot-CD (such as the Windows XP CD-ROM) is inserted
3. disk-drive, if installed, functional, and the "boot" record can be read from the disk-drive
4. from the Ethernet network, via a "networked boot server"

So, "check cable" means that either no Ethernet cable is connected to the computer, or that the "networked boot server" is not installed, or the boot-server did not reply.

What this means is that your disk-drive was damaged by the fall, and the "boot" information cannot be read from the disk-drive.

So, you need to replace the disk-drive.
