SMART is used to measure your HDD health. It warns you of impending failure of your hard drive. If it goes down, it's a good idea to backup important stuff and prepare to replace the HDD.

S.M.A.R.T is an acronym for Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology systems (SMART) and it's usually built in to most modern ATA and SCSI hard disks.
If you need further assistance, feel free to ask. If this answers or solves your issue, please rate it. Thanks, Joe

SMART failure predicted on hard drive 2: WDC WD2500BEVS-22USTO-(S1)

This error is usually caused by excessive sector remapping, meaning that either your hard drive's heads are failing or the coating on the platters is. You need to clone the drive as soon as possible. If your data is critical (can't afford to lose it) we can do it for you using professional data recovery tools for $350. http://www.data-medics.com

How can i fix my acer 5515 smart failure predicted on hard disk 4 wdc wd1600bevt-22zcto-s1

This error message is warning that the hard disk could fail soon. It pays to back up your data frequently so when the hard disk fails you will not lose youe data.
The only way to fix this problem is to install a new hard disk, install Windows on the new hard disk and the Acer laptop's device drivers plus your programs and data.

So, my laptop - (Sony Vaio VGN-CR220E) has crashed twice before... I just found the Repair Disks, but I'm not quite sure what to do. I put the first disk in, and it loads up to a screen SMART Failure...

Have you ever heard of TDL4 malware? It actually writes a new partition with oddball parameters such that most antivirus and anti-malware products cannot find the infection. But often the new partition overlaps previous partitions, making the internal "not-so-SMART" routines suspect that the hard drive is failing. It usually is not true! But there are only a scant few utilities that even detect TDL4, or any of it's variations. Good Luck!

Acer Aspire 5100: SMART Failure on Hard Disk 4

Hello there,

As per experience, SMART Utility will check your HDD for any errors that may occur.

I backed up everything and replaced a new HDD and got rid of the error.

Opened up the problematic HDD and noticed a very light scratch on its "platters".

As for me. Never ignore this warning before something might happen to your HDD and lost important data.

Error message at startup !!

SMART stands for Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology.

If you want lots of details on what it is, and does, take a look at this link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-Monitoring,_Analysis,_and_Reporting_Technology

It is highly unlikely that you will be able to fix this since it's a hardware problem on the hard drive. The drive may last for years or it may die tomorrow. At a minimum I would back up everything you care about on a regular basis.

If you found this information helpful I would appreciate it if you would rate this solution. I hate to beg, but over half of the solutions I've posted have no feedback. I'm not paid for this I'm just trying to help.
