Has the patton 682 been recalled? I am trying to decide between the 680 and 682 as I'd like to purchase one or the other. However, i just noticed on the internet that 682 may have been recalled. Is that true? What is the difference between the 680 and 682? Thank you, Penney

The thermostat is probably shot. These units are repairable but disposable, meaning the repair will likely cost as much as a new unit.

Use it to determine if your model Patton heater was included in the recall.

There was also a recall in 1985.

It's an easy fix, so to speak. You Patton heater was recalled in December of last year. So now you are entitled to a new one.

Your Patton Heater may be on the Voluntary Safety Recall List. For more info call Patton Electric Co. toll- free at (800) 528-6050. You will need your Model # and Serial # before calling.

Yes, there is/was a recall on some Patton Heaters, but I don't recall if your model # is one of them. For more info search Google for Patton Heater Recall Notice and you'll find the correct site.

I saw your post and I encourage you to report your problem to The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. I called them to report the problem. The number to the company (Patton) is 763 444 8567. The number to The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is 1-800-638-2772. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission will take your report and if you know others that have this product and they have experienced the same thing encourage them to call and report it. The heater I had melted unto a ultility extention cord and was smoldering. It could have cause serious injury or damages to me and my family.

If this product could have injured you as well. The are a public hazard and need to be recalled.
