We have bought several HL-5240 and they worked fine out of the box.
This time we installed a unit that when we power it on, the toner/drum/paper lights and the status light come yellow for about 5 seconds then they turn off, the status light blinks green and then turns red and stays red.
Pressing the GO button has no effect, but if we press the Job Cancel button the status light blinks yellow green twice and stays green but the printer doesn't work (the motor running sound doesn't come on).
If possible, would appreciate some help on this.

My HL-5240 did the same thing, Here is what I found:
Look at the back of the printer. Pull down the back cover. Look to the right and the left of the exposed internals of the printer and there should be another handle/knob you can pull down. Pull these both down simultaneously and check to make sure there isn't a piece of paper in there! This was a shock to me! My office printer was held up for days until I found this hidden door in the back! I felt like an idiot that it was from a stupid paper jam!
thankyou thankyou thankyou
Brilliant....can't believe I missed this!
Thank you!

Solution 3 solved it for us after 3 days of head scratching and frustration!! God bless the internet. Thank you.
Well, ok, that didn't work for me...I think mine has no ink...I took out the ink cartridge and closed the cover, it made a few noises and realised then it was out of toner. I also opened up the toner cartridge and looked inside, no ink, wow but the ink costs so much! I'll get some more ink and repost the results.
I too found this tip sovled my problem of a 'non-functioning" printer! I never would have found this answer by myself. Many thanks!
Mine turned out to be a piece of paper hidden under the toner cartridge.
Same here. Staus light red on start up. Pressing the 'Job cancel' button causes the status light to cycle through red amber green stopping on green but printer does not respond to a print command. Tried all combinations of power on/off, computer reboot etc but still won't print. Agggh.

Help! I have the same problem but my printer was working fine until a couple days ago and then it just stopped working. Same thing happens when it turns on.
I have the same problem. Earlier today the printer was working well. Now, when I try to print I get a failure to print message. I have done this repeatedly and turned the printer off/on. I get the all lights yellow then the status light flashes green but instantly turns red and stays red. I have asked for a test print. I have tried printing from several sorces. I have turnedmy computer off then back on. I have also gone through the quicker restart.
I have the same problem as everyone else, but no paper jam
