I just got a postwar lionel #3540 radar space from 1959 to complete my 1959 2545ws n&w 746 set in realy nice shape but has no belt or #19 bulb for the radar screen light i found were the bulb gos but how do you install the new belt for the radar screen this postwar #3540 is52 years old and i want to be careful can anybody hep? thanks mike

take out switch assemby and check if the track of the pcb is blown - caused by the bulb goiung. you can often repair by soldering in wire links. bet you have 12a fuse in system - should be 3a. track has blown instead of the fuse

my suggestion for you is to use a rubber inner tube, cut in half.
also the use of glue i would,nt recommend, but something more flexible such as silicone sealent.

the light bulb or rather the light globe if you will is not hard to change just remove the olde one and there you shall see the shape and size of the light globe which from here on in we shall call the "thing" no not cuzzin its companion in the adams family but i digress once you have the "thing" in your hand you will know what it looks like and therefore should have a good idea of what its replacement will look like.continuing on use the internet to track down cuzzin its companion on the internet.How do i do that you may well ask well i'll tell you.look up light globes for that particular model sewing machine that you so wish to get the "thing' for and i am sure you will come across its twin brother lovingly packed in a small cardboard box or some such similar packing on ask jeeves or google or ebay . after youv'e googled or ebayed or asked jeeves whatever it is you want if you haven't forgot and gone back to square one wherever that is.if you really can't acquire the "thing" then unglue the base of the "thing" and unsolder the two wires going into the base and go to woollies or lowes hardware or selfridges or whatever and buy the biggest dam light globe you can find unglue the base and resolder the "thing"base onto it and by heaven you will have the most wonderful sewing machine light globe in the whole wide world.Failing that have you thought about a desk lamp or perhaps a new sewing machine?

There are rough service bulbs you can buy at hardware stores. You can also try unplugging the unit and using a small screwdriver pull out on the center contact in the light bulb socket.
