That sound is the sound of death....... The compressor is trying to start but can't and the overload is tripping. May only need a new start capacitor or a 3 in 1 start capacitor which replaces the overload start relay and capacitor. If you have a amp meter you can check the amp draw to see if it is drawing Locked Rotor Amps. Look at the name plate on the compressor and it will give you LRA.and see if it is close to it. Then check it again after you replace the start components and see what it is drawing if it has not started and still drawing high amps then the compressor is locked up and will have to be replaced.

Yukon a/c blows hot air

Assuming you hear some kind of clicking noise when you turn the AC on (the compressor clicking on):
Seals on the AC compressor likely bit the dust. GM AC compressors go out almost as frequently as tires. The good thing is that they're not horrifically difficult to replace. You can get some freon with dye in it at your local parts house. Get enough to fill it up as though it's empty (as it likely is), and see if it starts blowing cold. It should blow cold for a little while (days/weeks maybe), but when you open the hood, you'll notice some green dye around the compressor. That's where the seals have failed and why you get to be the proud new owner of a brand new compressor (don't waste your time on a used one from a salvage yard. You'll get to replace it again soon, if you do.)

Not staying cold

tell me do you hear a buzzing sound for about 5 sec ending with a click sound. every so often?? if so then you have a start device (relay) problem on the compressor you may think the unit is running b/c the lights are on and fan is on but if you hear that noise coming from the back of the unit while turned on then its the start relay or worse case the compressor is locked up..9-10 though usually its the start device

Hiya,i have a hotpoint fridge freezer ffa91 and the fridge is no longer getting cold. The compressor seems is hot but cant hear the normal noises coming from the fridge. The digital display shows an arrow...

1. is light on in side when you open the door. If not check breakers or fuses.
2. Can you hear the compressor running. If not do you hear any clicking sounds.
3. If you hear clicking sounds, try putting a fan on compressor and unplug refrigerator.
4. Wait one hour.
5. plug back in. If compressor starts let it run and see if it cools, if it doesnt, call service man.
6. If it goes back to clicking, call a service man.

THE WHOLE THING HAS JUST STOPPED BEING COLD BOTH SIDES?

there is no motor in the fresh food side. since you hear a motor, you can eliminate your temperature control or defrost control. Check to see if fan near compressor is running, feel the compressor, is it vibrating, if not, do you hear any clicks or buzzing noises, if not, remove back wall of freezer and look for any frost or ice on the aluminum evaporator.

Blowing air but not cold, I hear a click noise every few minutes.

the clicking you hear is probably the overload protector for the compressor.if it is you need either a new start relay or a new compressor, you need a technician to determine which it is

Refrigerator won't get cold

. Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start.
Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay.

Freezer does not get cold

If you open the door and the light comes on then you have power. If you don't hear the compressor motor at the back running but you hear a intermittent clicking noise coming from back there, then you have a faulty starting device for the compressor or a seized compressor motor.

Running fine but blowing warm air

"it seems to work fine but will not get cold"
Not sure how it can work fine and is not cold. When you say work fine, is the light on and the freezer fan blowing but is the compressor running?

Unplug the Ref and wait about 30 min or so, plug it back in and listen for the compressor to start running. You should be behind the Ref to hear this. If you don't hear it start running then you may hear a clicking noise. This clicking is a problen with the compressor start relay. If the compressor runs but still is not cold then it could be low on coolant.

GE Profile Stainless Steel Top Freezer Refrigerator

Check the compressor.
Unplug for 15-20 min. plug it back in and listen for the compressor to start. You will have to be behind the ref to listen and make sure you hear the compressor start and not just a fan running. If you hear a clicking noise then the compressor relay is bad.

My compressor is still running but only blowing cool not cold

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Offhand, what would seem to be the problem is that there is a refrigerant leak hence even if the compressor is running, there is no refrigerant being compressed and flows through the system to cool things down.

Most compressors could be checked with a clamp ammeter to determine their starting and running current which would indicate if they are in need of replacement or not.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.
