My dryer won't start. The timer ticks as though it's working. I have taken the start button to an appliance repair shop and they siad it was good. I replaced the door switch with a new one and it still won't start. I was supprised that the new door switch's wires were color coded backwards. The red and the blue lined up against opposite colors. Any suggestion would be appreciated as my fix-it manual states that the prior two items are about the only problems that occur when the dryer won't start and the power works?

Whiripool dryer t mod leq9508 pro

Sounds like the wire going to the motor from the timer is open somewhere or the contacts in the timer is not making a connection. If you have a schematic you could see which wire feeds the motor and see if it has voltage coming out of the timer.
If it has voltage could be a wire or the start switch I see you said start sw works though. Hope this helps if I think of anything else I'll let you know.

Dryer will not start but timer ticking

If the start button is an "ON - OFF" button (meaning, you can turn the dryer off manually instead of resetting timer in order to switch it off), try turning the dryer ON...then switch it back to "OFF".
Hopefully the dryer will continue, and the thermostat will kick in.

I have the pth5498 and my tv won't turn on. My

Timer is not the problem---the tick ticking sound is the shutdown circuit in the set that has been triggered by a short somewhere likely in the high voltage area or the convergence circuit---shop repair---says Akai but I suspect set was made by Samsung who owned that name at one time.

Whirlpool Ultimate Care II gas dryer won't turn off.

Dryer Won't Stop Running
  • Ultimate Car II Dryers are fitted with a mechanical timer that sends an impulse to the control circuit board to stop running once the set amount of drying time has elapsed. This is because, should an electronic timer fail, this would necessitate the replacement of the entire circuit board. Confirm that the mechanical timer is indeed broken by opening the dryer's door. If the dryer stops, the circuit board is working fine and is not the problem. Simply slide off the protective faceplate of the dryer, unscrew the control board beneath, and flip it over. Connected to the back of the timer's knob should be a small round device with two wires running to the circuit board within the body of the dryer. Unscrew this device from the back of the knob and disconnect the wires. A replacement timer costs a few dollars and should screw into place without trouble. Reconnect the wires and put the dryer back together. It should work fine now.

Have a Whirlpool GEQ9800LW0 and it won't start. When I set the timer and push the start button nothing happens. The timer still makes it's usual clicking sound but the dryer won't start. What needs...

Check power to the inlet valve, if absent let the program move forward and if the motor does not work either it is possible that thetimer though ticking is not contacting.
So go back to check for the wash cycle, when start is pushed, inlet valve on, water comes in, water fills , triggers level sensors, washing starts with motor on.
If there is no voltage on any parts ,the timer contactor is faulty

Faulty Start Button?

If the dryer doesn't even start to turn when you press the start button, then you have to look at a couple things; The start button itself, the starting relay or the safety circuit. You mentioned that there's a ticking sound... if this sound goes away when you open the dryer door but comes back again when the door is closed, then the safety circuit is working.

It could be the switch itself or the starting relay (if equipped with one). If you're mechanically capable, consider looking at the relay. See if the contacts are being pulled in when the start switch is pressed (DANGER: HIGH VOLTAGE). If it is, the start switch is OK.

Hope this helps.
