A Garmin Nuvi 1300 that won't start, or is acting erratically is symptomatic of having corrupt firmware.

To correct this, I recommend backing up your favorites, clearing all user data, and if it still is stuck, then updating your Nuvi firmware.

Follow these three steps to take to get your Garmin Nuvi 1300 running like new:

i have gone through more cables than you can imagine, if you plug in the cable that gives you the computer symbol,slide the power button to what would be the off position then slide it back to lock
1 or 2 slides should take it out of this mode, i had the same problem.

I called Garmin at 1-800-800-1020 and spoke to a customer service rep. Indicated I was driving down the road and the GPS fell out of the cradle socket...which the GPS could have broke. They said no problem and are sending me a new cradle socket at no charge. Good Luck.

You should register it, Garmin gives you free download of 2010 maps. On the GPS go to Tools, Help, use down arrow to find General Information, click it and then scroll to "Registering your Nuvi" Instructions are on the screen. http://my.garmin.com (make sure GPS is connected with USB first.
