Ge range model no. RB787WC2WW has a 20 degree drop in tempurature before heating again. Also the thermostat was off by 20 degrees and resetting to rise 20 degrees it went now too high by 30 degrees. A rise of 20 degrees turned out to be a 50 degree rise.

What needs fixed in my built in Tappen oven, model 12-1263-30, when it is 90 degrees off?

Hello Wendy;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

The normal operation of a oven is the oven will rise 20-40 degrees above the set temperature and turn off. Then, when the oven temperature drops 20-40 degrees below the set temperature it will turn back on and cycle again. This is true except for the new accurate ovens.

Since you are getting heat your oven heating element is good.

You have a older oven.

Your problem is either the oven thermostat which cost over $200.00.

Now, here are your choices:

1.) Take a chance and purchase the oven thermostat and install it. If this does not solve the problem you can return it less shipping and restocking charges.

2.) My professional recommendation is to put the old girl to rest.
You can:
a.) Go to a Sears Outlet (Scratch and Dent) Store, save a couple of hundred dollars on a new oven and still get a one year warrantee .
b.) Go to a used appliance store.
c.) Go to Habitat Stores - used appliance stores.
d.) Go to Second Chances Stores - Appliances removed from homes that were torn down.

Best of luck,

Peter

Heat pump not keeping up to set temperature on thermostat but never drops below 63 degrees whens its 20 degrees outside.

It may be getting low on refrigerant due to a small leak. I'd have it serviced soon. When running at less than peak efficiency it will much more often switch on the heat strips and they are not cheap to operate.

Re: GE Spectra Oven will not heat beyond approx. 200 degrees.

May be a bad thermostat... the elements usually either work or they dont but you can look it over to see if there are any burns or breaks starting to form or do a current test.
When you have figured out what part check out www.appliancepartssolutions.com they have cheep parts.good luck!

I have the exact problem. We had the ignitor replaced 2 already and it works for 18 months and stops. Occasionally, it the oven won't even start to heat. I am ready to throw it out.
